Don't you think most of us have done that? Most atheists were raised with Christian families and friends. the decision to state your beliefs is not an easy one, and some of your loved ones won't accept your choice. Free thought and faith are 2 different things, and most atheists find they can't just play the game of going to church and pretending to believe in magic...even though that might have been easier.

Those are good questions, and it is no use desiring proof in this life; we don't have proof. We have some very good evidence, to which we can respond with faith.
What if there is a God, the Father, the almighty, Creator of heaven and earth? That would mean that we are creatures, designed in the image of our Creator, and the beneficiaries of the greatest inheritance one could ever imagine.
What if there is a judgment day? That would mean that one day, and that could be today, we will be held accountable for how we've used the gift of life. On that day, there will be no more tomorrows to repent. We'll know if we've run the good race, or whether we've run away from God.

You present this idea without having examined the process yourself.
To accomplish what you are saying is impossible, even if a god like you say exists. It is those feelings that believers possess that give us a notion of God. That notion of a personal God and a loving one. Those feelings that say "our God loves us and will take care of me blah blah"
If you truly did cast away what you call your "feelings" then you will come to find out that there is no proof of a God of that sort existing. Then, you say "well, the bible says he does" The bible was written by humans that possessed the same feelings as we all possess today. So, it can not be said that the bible is the final word because it is a mere interpretation of the "word of God"
Then you could claim that your faith tells you that he exists. But, your faith is based on those feelings of hope and trust, all mortal notions of things not proven in ultimate reality.
So, by casting away those feelings you can come to discover that it doesn't really matter if there is a god. If people are living according to themselves then they should have no reason to hope or trust in any higher being. They should be able to continue living their lives the way they were, without the doom and gloom of having to watch what they do because some policing force is watching their every move.

If I do that I also have to wonder if there are severasl gods on a mountain who want something different, and a god who wants war, and one who says I should have many wives, but not drink soda.....You see my dear, If I make room for one fantastic possobility then I have to do it for all of them, and I spend all my time hunting unicorns. What if you put your feelings aside for just one moment and wondered what if....
what if Islam is right?
what if there is no god?
what if you are no more or less special than a flower or a rain drop?
what if it is only ego to think that you deserve to be eternal?
what if we are the new greeks, and the "one true religion" hasn't come around yet?

Okay. Now for just one moment and just wonder what if? Your bible was put together from the texts of other older religions by men. What if your God has been invented by men? What if your Heaven and Hell were invented by men? Just stop for a minute and think about that, without desiring proof of anything just think in your heart what if.......

I have wondered about this.
I thought about this situation very often during my questioning/deconversion phase.
Do I have flaws? Yes, of course. Do I think that I am basically a decent person? Most of the time.
If there is a deity out there, it should know me better than I know myself; it should see that I am doing the best I can, that I can only believe what my heart tells me is true, and that I tried to build up a faith and failed, having never received any divine guidance that I was ever aware of. If said deity chooses to punish me for this, I think that there is nothing I can do about it. I am not going to pretend to believe in something just on the off chance that it exists.

We are living proof that there was God. But I believe that he is just in our memory right now. That's why it is the church legacy to not to stop people from the memory so that we could continue being human in all ways. But if the church and preachers are all become fake (just like there are some -) then the legacy might eventually stop,

Yes-what if. I am so glad there IS a God!!! And even though I will stand before Him someday, as we all will, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt, I shall be ready. My sins have been forgiven, washed away by the precious blood of Jesus. I encourage any on here to listen to my friend here. Hear and know that there is a God, He cares for you. He wants you to turn to Him.

Good luck asking the western hemisphere to believe in anything. They'll demand exceeding faith, as they destroy innocent lives. I have no doubt most shall be consumed while still holding the blade in their hands at that very unsuspecting moment. You see, only arrogance rules their hearts. Else some of us would not be deformed, miserable in pain, while they brag of stature greater than even God.

If there is a God (one God) and if there is a judgement day. and if that God decides that I am not permitted into heaven because I am a Wiccan. than i dont want to be there anyways. Why would I want to spend eternity with some closed minded people(not saying all christians are closed minded)? Why would I want to spend time with people that say that any religion that is not Christianity is satanic(again not saying that all Christians say this)?
