As mentioned, recent versions of Nero can do this, DVDflick sounds interesting since it's free. DVDshrink can only copy dvd's, and can't convert avi files into dvd format.
Another choice is Ashampoo Burning Studio. You can haggle the price with that company and get a good deal on it.

I suggest you use 'Cucusoft AVI/MPEG to DVD/VCD Converter'.
It will convert your avi files to the format your DVD Player can read and then burn onto DVD. I personally use it, easy to use and hassle free. thumbs up
1. Download and install, the software here: http://www.burner-software.com/AVI-to-DVD-Converter/MPEG-AVI-to-DVD-VCD-Converter.html
2. Drag and drop your video files to the program
3. Insert a blank DVD and click "Convert & Burn"
4. Enjoy watching those videos on your TV! :)
- Also ConvertXtoDVD can be a good option if you want to create DVD menus. You can find it listed with others here: http://www.burner-software.com/AVI-to-DVD-Converter/
