How far is a block

I keep hearing on tv 2 blocks away , a few blocks away etc
Well how far is it yards meters miles ???

88 yards and 80 meters I heard as a rule of thumb 20 blocks to the mile a mile is 1760 yards and 1600 meters

"Block" is probably more of a local reference. Refering to the approximate length of a block in your town. This can vary from town to town. A "City Block" is always a greater distance.
