Use a spray that attaches to the water hose to saturate your yard, bath your dog in Dawn dish detergent, then put him on Frontline or another flea treatment. Frontline seems to work the best for me, and I only have to use it once every 2-3 months rather than monthly. I buy mine on ebay for about half the price of the vet. Be sure you get Frontline Plus since it kills eggs as well as adult fleas. Another suggestion is to keep one or two geese or guineas. If you do that, you will never see a tick.

You get heartworm/flea/tick preventative from the vet.

You call the local pest control and have them come spray the yard with non-toxic bug control. If they are in the house, that needs to be treated also.

The reason I didn't say for you to take care of the yard yourself is this: my husband used concentrated chemicals from Wal-Mart and sprayed our yard over and over and over (this was before preventative meds were available). One of the dogs had a large growth removed once, or maybe twice. She eventually died from complications of thyroid problems. The other had a growth, too. Under her chin and jaw. We would have had to remove half of her face to take care of it, so we euthanized her instead (when we could see that she was miserable with pain). I believe both of these incidents of cancers were caused by the type of insect controlling chemicals we used. Now, we have professionals, and a baby can touch it or eat it and be okay. We use Terminix and love them.

Take care!

go to your vet and get advantage or frontline for your dog, then go to any store with a good yard and garden section . you will find several products to treat your yard. do not get the cheaper stuff for you dog like they sell at wal mart. it doesnt work.
