Many atheists explain that atheism is not a religion but more of a philosophical framework, therefore it seems to make sense that they would enjoy conversations in the Arts & Humanities > Philosophy category. Yet so many prefer to chat in Religion & Spirituality. Is it because atheists consider themselves to be "spiritual" in some sense. If this is true, please explain how this is possible. Thanks in advance for your time.

I'm not an atheist but from what I've observed here over the past year tells me that most atheists consider themselves to be superior to Christians, calling them "idiots" and accusing them of denying reason and logic. Many atheists come on here simply to laugh at people who choose to have beliefs (any supernatural beliefs) AND to pal around with the other atheists that are in here doing the same thing. Seems pretty non-productive to me.

Honestly, if they really don't care about what others believe and have a "live and let live" philosophy then I invite them to do just that, and stop heckling those who choose to have objective spiritual beliefs.

To be honest with you, it will be because they like to cause greef of some sort. it's the whole "those damn always bother me, so now it's my turn." type thing. Basicly immature people.

Those that ARE mature enough to come here are usually drowned out and get frustrated and eventually either leave, or conform to what appears to be the social norm.

Some come here seeking to become spiritual, others think they are. Some have honest questions about a religion, others come to insult and provoke trouble and fights. Sometimes it's hard to tell them apart by the way they word their questions. In the end, it comes down to a good portion of them wanting to start debates, argue, or just cause trouble in general and this is their chosen trolling ground.

They are at war with spirituality and religion. As long as they keep the conversation at a basic level, asking the same stupid questions over and over again, they know that the conversation will never mature into something interesting. And it's working. Many people have left this forum and gone on to other areas because this place is getting boring. Too many trolls.

You are aware that messages from this forum show up in General Answers as soon as it's posted, right? That way people of all kinds can answer them, not just someone who selects R&S (is that like S&M?). Given that a large number of those that I've seen are often taunting Atheists in their subject line, what would you expect? When I see something that says Pagan, I will click on it too! If you stop antagonizing them as a group, perhaps they will find other things to do.

Atheists have their own beliefs and more power to them.

This forum is where they would belong, as atheism itself is indeed a belief system, one that dogmatically asserts God does not exists, which non-existence they cannot prove,

And as a result , atheism tends to be like other false religions, and generally fosters societies given to personality cults (N. Korea, etc.) that are like religious cults. Auschwitz, the gulag and the killing fields are examples of what happens when human beings reject Biblical Christianity (Germany and Russia overall did long before Nazism and Communism took hold). And as atheism has no transcendent moral authority, except what they see as "reasonable", thus atheism's legacy is largely men like Stalin Mao, and Pol Pot, who operated out of the same objectively baseless morality (whatever you perceive as "reasonable) and has shed more blood the last century than all theistic belief systems combined http://reformed-theology.org/html/issue06/governments.htm

Meanwhile no one was ever killed by anyone seeking to defend or expand the Christian faith, if acting consistent with Biblical Christianity, which very clearly disallows such http://peacebyjesus.witnesstoday.org/jes... - as they preach the truth in love, of Christ who gave Himself for our sins and rose again!

There are plenty of religious issues going on in today's society, and you don't have to be religious to have an opinion about them.

For example, look at that creation science museum that opened up recently in the United States. Why exactly do I have to believe in God to have an opinion about that? I can still decide whether I think it's a good or bad idea, and be able to talk about it, can't I? The same goes with the Intelligent Design movement, and homosexual rights, and prayer in schools, and "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance, and plenty of other issues that involve religion. You don't need to HAVE a religion to talk about them.

Yes, atheists can be spiritual. You can believe in the spirit but reject organized religion. But even if you don't, you can still post here. The only people who don't belong here are the people who don't have opinions about religion. If you do, you can visit, whether you have a religion or not.

I am an atheist, but I'm very well-educated with all different religions. Such is the case with many and most atheists... the more they learn about it the more they tend to be against it. Anyways, we have interests in it.

Perhaps it's because we struggled with the question of whether or not to believe what our parents and society in general were trying to make us believe, and we have arrived at a conclusion which satisfactorily answers many of the questions posed here by puzzled "believers". You may note that many of the the questions ask "why" one thing or another seems to be true if the bible or preachers say something else should be or is true. Many disparities or inconsistencies we observed as "puzzled believers" now fit perfectly the realities we see around us, and we are more at peace with ourselves and our communities. We understand that many believers are extremely stubborn, devoted if you will, to the mainenance of blind faith in the face of contradictory evidence, which, of course, is DEMANDED of most religions. Like the original "independent" thinkers who challenged the church-supported "common knowledge" that the earth was flat, we continue to support and advocate "independent" thought, together with personal responsibility. Another point worth considering; we're certainly not doing it for the points! No matter how true our statements may be, you believers will never grant us "best answer" choices, so our answers are not going to make our "wisdom" the glorious kind, more like the underdog you yourselves try to be.

It can be for all sorts of reasons, but my personally guess is they are hypocrites, they say they are not into Religion & dont care what one practices as long they dont put it upon them yet they come here insluting Religous ppl & making a mockery of God, maybe they want to express their views so that ppl might change their opinion of God or even turn to atheism, maybe they say they are atheists but deep down want to know about Religion & are curious, maybe this shows what keeps being said that atheists are in denial about Religon & God so therefore want to seek knowledge of Religion much as possible so they can maybe think twice before calling themselves athiest, maybe they actually hate Religious ppl & want to wind Religious ppl up here, maybe they want to educated themselves about religion as they didnt know much about religion before so therefore the more they know the more they come to this section, maybe they see themselves as a group as Religions see themselves as groups so therfore feel the need to defend themselves and become extremists, maybe they cant accept the fact there are lot of Religious ppl out there & get angry & come here to say anything to make themselves feel good, i know ur Question referred to atheists & im not an atheist but just felt the need to say this, Peace.

I just go to Yahoo and click on the Answer button.. you get all sorts of topics there, and if I see a wacko religious question, I might choose to respond.

I am not spiritual at all.. I am living my life.. and then I will die. If you end up somewhere else... good for you.
