Well more then 70,000. Britain has the territorial amry on stand by incase anything happens. If anyc ountry was to attack Britain most of our navy, subs and air force are at home to defend us. Anyway, Britain would pull out from the countries they are in and come to defend Britain, that would be there first priority. Don't worry, the SAS will save us!. haha

If your talking about a invasion of Britain theirs not enough troops or equipment to repel a invasion. If your talking about a natural or man made disaster still not enough troops or equipment to be deployed in such emergency. We are very weak just now and other country's like Russia can see this. Only Russia, China or United states of america can mount such a invasion on Britain, it would probably be a airborne invasion to start with. We are screwed what ever happens, ill keep watching the film Red Dawn just incase?

Immaterial really because 1, it won't happen and 2, Nato members have pledged to leap to each other's defence if another Nato member is attacked by foreign forces (military or paramilitary) hence the UK awacs circling New York on 9/11

Why would any country attack the UK?
But here is a famous quote from an American general from the early 1970s, "The British? All they have are generals, admirals and bands." (Gen. George Scratchley Brown was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff). Surely it has to have gotten worse since then.

None the Yanks have them all in Iraq. If this government needed the army they would have to call out, so called, European friends who would invade with pleasure and then stay to see that we behaved ourselves and obeyed all the EU crap. why do you think our army is in Iraq to reduce our defence capability.
halofan373, You don't think that we want any help from the Yanks, there would be thousands if not millions killed by 'friendly fire' and we can do without that, also they would be 4 years late as usual.

Prince Harry is available so that should be enough, and maybe the other Royals who wear their uniforms with all them shiny medals can stand in when Harry is out clubbing.

to be completely honest. not more than a handfull, a couple thousand at best. most of them are not real combat troops. though they have been combat trained.
we are stretched way way to thin. and we are very vulnerable.
