10:30 on school nights 11:30 or 12:00 on the weekends. Only because at that age they have after school activities that run late and they need time for that, bath, homework, and dinner. And on the weekends some like to go to the movies or for pizza with their friends so that gives them time to still be a kid and at the same time give them some routine in their lives.

I'm sorry, but I disagree with those who said 14 - 15 year olds can determine their own bedtime. Left in their hands, teens would stay up all night. So they would be tired the next day, possibly fall asleep in class. Big deal! By the time night falls, they get their second wind, and do it all over again. Before you realize it, you have a teenager who can't sleep at night...a recipe for disaster!
Parents of teens need to be consistent. Teenagers still need a set bedtime. My family goes to bed at 10:00pm, myself included. On the weekends, we stay up until 11 or 12.
Hey, I used to let my children determine their bedtime. It didn't work for my family. My youngest son is a 9th grader, too. He is used to the consistency of a 10:00 bedtime. He doesn't stay up all weekend anymore, playing his video game. I know he gets enough sleep now.
Good luck.

I don't think a 9th grade boy should have an enforced bedtime. It is time for him to start taking responsibility for his own health wellbeing. There are only a few short years until college and he needs to learn to get himself a reasonable amount of sleep on his own. Buy him an alarm clock, set it for when he needs to get up for school, and make sure he knows that under no circumstances will he be late for school. He may decide to stay up uber late for a few nights, but the one day he can't keep himself awake at school will be enough of a lesson for him to get to bed at night...also do not allow him to nap after school!

I really didnt have a "bed time" in highschool i had a curfew.
weeknights I had to be in at 10:00 and I was usually in bed by 10:30 on my own. Weekends it was 12:00 and then when i got home from doing whatev, i usually went striaght to bed.
And it all kind of depends on how your child gets up in the morning. my parents didn't have any prob with my in the morning bc i got up on my own and was at school on time too.
So it sorta goes by that too, and how the child is doing in school, if you find out they arnt turning in assignments or missing classes then the "social time" should be cut down..

Scientifically, they say the older you are the more sleep you need. You are what..14 in the th grade? If he gets up on his own and is responsible enough to make sure his chores and homework are done...then I would say 11PM.
