Don't make your choice on the fact that the Taurus is $150 cheaper. And don't choose a Glock or a Springfield because they have more accessories. Which one do you like to shoot most, which one feels the best in your hand, which one gives you the most pride of ownership. They are all good, serviceable weapons; but your choice should really be based on the one you "love" rather than the one other people are telling you to "love".

I have 3 Glocks, a 20, 23, and 29. All 3 shoot great and I would recommend any Glock over any Taurus or Springfield.
I've shot the others and I still carry a Glock for self defense. Your life is worth far more than the $150 price difference, and so is teh Glock. Is a .40 or a 10mm an option? If so don't get a 9mm. I personally prefer the 10mm. It has about double the power of a 9mm. The 10mm is also more powerful than the .45, the cartridge that has been the standard for high powered semi auto pistols for almost 100 years.

Odd assortment to pick from. The 92 is a copy of the Beretta but still a nice gun, a bit bulky for my taste but a good value for the money. I have become a fan of the Taurus line of guns and now own several. The Glock 17 is a service sized pistol and so is the XD. You might want to look at the Taurus 24/7 line instead of the PT92. The 24/7 is more like the other two guns. I have seen them on sale for about $400.

Since I've never owned a Springfield XD or a Glock, I can not comment on them.
I did own an early production Taurus PT-92. Let me say that it was 100% reliable, and acceptably accurate. With a little practice, I could put 33 rounds into an 8" circle at 10 yards just as fast as I could pull the trigger and change magazines. It was also the most polite semi-automatic I've ever owned. It would consistently drop the fired brass in a small area about six feet to the rear and three feet to the right of my firing position.
Taurus PT-92's are not just licensed copies of the Beretta P-92's, they are built in a factory built by Beretta to fill a large order for the Brazilian Army, and built on machinery designed and built by Beretta for Beretta. They have all the quality and design features of the Beretta P-92 with two big differences.
1. I've never heard of a Taurus PT-92 slide breaking during recoil.
2. The Taurus PT-92 has the capability of being carried either ******-and-locked, or using a hammer-drop safety.
Based on my past experience, if I were making the choice, I'd go with the Taurus.

Go with the Glock or the XD. I prefer Glocks, but I own a .45 ACP XD and like it. I would think the grip would be the deciding factor between the two. XDs have a 1911 style grip whereas a Glock has its own unique angled grip, I like it, some do not. Go to a gunshop and handle both pistols. Get the one which seems to fit your hand the best. From personal experience, I've never had a Glock misfire, but I've had a couple of faiure to feeds with a couple different XD models. It was nothing that couldn't be fixed quickly but as a result, I give Glocks the edge since I've never had one misfire. Good luck with your decision.

I have EXTENSIVE experience with the Beretta and the Glock and limited, but positive, experience with the XD.
Taurus makes good guns but I don't like the 92. My chief complaint with is it that it is a pain to clean. There are many small parts and it is complicated. I don't like how the safety functions (as a decocker) and it's "on" and "off" seem to be backwards to me.
I enjoyed shooting a friends XD.
I LOVE the Glock. I would marry it if I could. It is simple to disassemble and easy to clean. As for the safety issue, there are 3 safetied but none that you have to "switch off." They are all passive and as long as your finger is not on the trigger, it will not shoot. It is accurate and incredibly reliable. I have put probably 5-6000 rounds through mine and I have had 2 jams, both occurred to another shooter who's wrist was too limp. There is also nearly NO wear to the gun!!! It is clearly used but in great shape. I put my life on the line with this gun every day.
As for your caliber choice, all of these guns are available if 40 S&W (my choice) but with high quality hollow point ammunition the 9mm should be enough for self defense, and much better for a recoil sensitive shooter.

I like Springfield xd over glock. They have a better fitting grip, added grip safety, two indicators (one being chamber indicator second being the striker indicator so you can see and feel if the gun is loaded and ready to fire). XDs are just as durable and have better sights. I own two. Taurus is a good gun, has lifetime warranty of the gun not the owner, great looking, but I enjoy my XDs more.

Go with the Glock. The gun is super reliable, have a mimimum of working parts, and is user serviceable if the need arises. The Glock 17's in 9mm have been subject to over a million rounds fired without a failure, or breadown in the gun's structure.

Of those 3, I personally like the glock 17 the best. It has a capacity of 17 rounds and the reliability of a glock.
But John T is right. You gotta get the gun you love.

I lock the Taurus brand. I also owned a PT92 and it was a fantastic pistol until some ****** broke into my truck at the American River in Auburn, CA and stole it while I was Baptizing a Brother in Christ.
