Buona fortuna.

Visas, which are required to legally enter the United States are distributed on a priority basis (immediate family relatives of citizens and those who serve a benefit to this country such as a prominent scientist are first in line).
The link below describes the different visa classifications. And yes, as a non-resident you'll need a visa. It would be much easier to come here if you already had a job than as an unemployed individual looking for work.
The government expects you to be able to provide for yourself upon arrival.

You must legally have a green card.
The most important requirements to obtain citizenship is that an immigrant must first become a lawful permanent resident, i.e., green-card holder. To apply for citizenship, individuals must be 18 years old or older, and must have been a legal permanent resident (i.e. green card holder) for five years (when married to a U.S. citizen, they must have had a green card for three years). In addition, citizenship applicants must be able to speak, read and write English (except if you qualify for a disability waiver), must be able to pass a U.S. history and government exam, must be a person of “good moral character,” and must take an oath of loyalty to the U.S.

If you want to be an american you have to look like one first.
Go to Jack in the Box and eat there for the next two months, you'll fit right in.
Then buy a F-350, jack it up really high and put big expensive tyres on it.
Then talk really loud.

To become an American just immigrate into any American nation you have 37 to choose from.
Much in the same way that if I wanted to become a European I would emigrate into any European nation. You may want to narrow the parameters of your question a tad, do you want to become an Argentinian, a Mexican, a United Statesian etc.

In order to become an American you have to be overweight, out of shape, ignorant, stupid, have no manners, be naive, have stupid expression on your face, but pretend to be smart, believe everything government tells you, vote for such presidents as G.W. Bush, love to watch Fox news, eat pretzels which are being sold on the streets by HIV positive individuals with dirt under their fingernails, hate black people and immigrants, etc.
