It is actually funny that you askthis! Just recently HGTV came out with an article called "dining room color trends" ...
http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/dc_design_dining_room/article/0,1793,HGTV_3369_5536256,00.html
It is better to use warm colors in this area. This way it always complements your food. If you are an ambitious type, an accent wall can be incorporated.. this means having 3 neutral walls and one wall that pops with color such as morrocan orange or a ruby red. It is best to have the color on ur wall represent a spice.. it helps influence the food and make you and your guests believe that they are about to embark on a tasty expedition.
This can be done with warm browns, tans, even with hints of reds.. on behr.com some examples of this would be "gobi desert" "oat straw" "wild honey" or even "rum spice" and "bedford brown"... to access these colors go to www.behr.com and click on start color smart.. then click the option that says you already know your color names.. or browse other colors!
I hope this helps!
oh ps. take into consideration the color of yourtable.. if it is a dark wood you are able to do both light and dark walls.. but with a light wood it is more difficult to be so versatile, stick to lighter colors rather than the deep ones

Believe it or not the in color for the dining room is red! If it were me I would tone it down to more of a cranberry color. They say a red room makes you look like you're glowing. Use some gold frames on the wall with family photos. If you have a room that is in close proximity to the dining room you can do that room in a yellow. It's a great combination. Good luck.

We have a chair rail in our dining room, so i painted the top half a creamy beige and the bottom section a chocolate color. It looks amazing and I get tons of compliments on it.

this totally depends on the room. It's impossible to just name you a color without seeing what the room's like. Every color has a range of shades that you could use...pinning down the perfect one requires knowing what your tastes are, what the room's dimensions are, the lighting qualities, the furniture, your lifestyle...post a pic of what it looks like now and mention some ideas you have for furniture arrangement and also what kind of atmosphere you like in such a room.

You need to find a good color that accents room near the dining room.
Id prefer a red. Ive read something about it stimulating your appetite, and most restraunts use it.

If you have a lot of light - and especially if you have nice painted woodwork (in maybe an off-white) then a rich red is great. In feng Shui red is believed to inspire conversation.
Warm tones are associated with food. Stay away from blues.

A creamy, butttery yellow. It's cheerful, but also soothing if it isn't too bright. Be careful with yellows because they intensify on the wall. Also with yellow, you can add blue and white accents (candles, tableclothes, etc) for a spring/summer look or reds for a more dramatic, fall look.

pastel shades are good, especially in pale, like duck egg blue, lemon or green, plain and simple-the less busy the room ,the more you'll enjoy being there ,it will aid digestion because you won't rush, you might even start eating as a family ,and perhaps even talk to each other

depends on your furniture. Muted colors like tan or beige can pretty much go with anything and they look classy. Pick a color you like from your furniture but I wouldn't go too crazy or loud.
