you'll find the higher the education level, the less people worry about hair cuts and tattoos - you wouldnt be asking the general public if "they want fries with that" or trying to sell them their new car.... you'll be providing higly specialized care.
your experience and your license speak volumes in this area
keep your license in good standing and complaint free and you can write your own ticket. They are starving for nurses out there.
In my experience as a volunteer and instructor, I find that kids like them- the seniors like to point and ask me what i was doing when i got whichever one catches their eye... and the middle of the road ages just want to know if they hurt... but I've never been asked to leave or anything. Relax...

I'm a respiratory therapist and there are a lot of nurses at the hospital where I work who have visible tattoos (arms, neck, etc.). I have a tattoo on my arm as well and it's never been a problem for me. Our hospital allows it as far as I know--there is nothing in our policy that states "no tattoos". I've never had a patient or anyone else complain, but I live in a city that's more on the liberal side, so that might have something to do with it. I wouldn't worry about a tattoo keeping you from getting a nursing job...I've never heard of anyone in health care not getting hired because of tattoos. There is always such a shortage of nurses and other health care professionals that I really don't think tattoos are on the list of reasons to not hire someone. It's always a good idea to check that sort of thing out ahead of time, though...it may be different where you live.

yea, besides it would be a little discrimatory if they didnt allow you to be a nurse because you had a tattoo. but it probably depends on the place you work and what kind of nurse you are. however if i went to a doctor and he/she had one little tattoo, or a full sleeve or even their whole body covered, i wouldnt care. and i say that not because i like tattoos or have them myself, i say that in the sense because just cause a person has a tattoo or several, doesnt change the way they work, or their position in that job field, or jeapordize me or any other patient. just my two cents worth :o)

My sister is a nurse and she has tattoos. I don't think any of them show because they're under her scrubs, though. The mere fact that she has tattoos hasn't hindered her yet, but I don't know if there's a rule about them showing.

Different workplaces may have different rules. I can tell you, if a nurse who was treating me had a tattoo, it wouldn't diminish my trust in her ability to perform his or her duties.

As a nurse for almost 15 years, the answer is yes.
I work with alot of nurses who have tatoos.
I want one myself.
Some places ask that you cover them up, but it isn't a problem either. Like a long sleeve shirt under your scrubs.

I'm in M.A and i wonder the same thing but the thing is that it's a bit risky esp. with Doctors. My doctor that i work for said that our patients are conservative therefore expect the same when coming to the office and we have to remain conservative. Its mostly elderly patients we see so i understand, i guess in the end it all comes down to where you work and who your employer is. Just ask your employer their policy on tats and so forth. As for patients, if they like it they like it, if not then not.. it all comes down to the quality of health services that you perform. if you do a good job then they'll remember you as the nurse that helped me though and had those tattoos lol so hope that helped.

different hospitals have different policies. there is nothing they can do about them if they are covered while you are at work. others may have issue with visible tattoos when you are in uniform. that is why it is so important to think about getting visible tattoos... they really can affect the rest of your life.
i work at a hospital and employees are permitted to have visible tattoos as long as they aren't offensive.

it depends what kinda nurse you wanna be and where you have it.
my mom is a registered nurse, and although she doesn't have any tattoos, i'm sure she could have one if it wasn't on her arms or neck or anything. (her uniform/scrubs are a short-sleeved shirt and pants)

Yes.

Most hospitals ask that you cover them while on duty, but I have seen some hospitals that don't care.

I doubt it. But if you do you can always cover it up with a piece of gauze or make-up. Any respectable job like nursing wouldn't want someone in their staff with a tattoo. But if you can hide it's fine.
