Hiya. As many as you know I am an aussie who is living in nz. While i wouldn't live anywhere else, I find this place hilarius.

The other day I went to the supermarket and a check out chick there was eating a cheescake while serving!

When I got home my next door neighbors wife was dacncing with her kids on top of her car (completly sober!)

At my daughters school there is a really weird handshake going around. Instead of hitting hands, they poke each others fingers, poke them selves in the eye, tap on the wrist watches and then put up the peace sign with their fingures and shout "peace and chicken grease"- is that mental or what!

I remember about 8 months ago i was watching a current affair program here called
'Fair Go'. One story was about a lady whos shoes where stolen! She got them from the wearhouse!, lol

I still can't get over how people here drive their cars on to the beach. They never did that in austrlaia, haha..

any you ever had a kiwi encounter like this

Ok I'm a kiwi...I find it amusing how some people find things here a big of a crack up or strange.....I have also seen people eating things before the check out....you are going to pay for it so why not have a nibble?!!
The woman dancing on the car was a bit strange, but hey people do wierd things all the time.....its a relaxed country with a relaxed lifestyle.
Schools always have fun little things goung around.! When I was teaching in the UK all the kids were constantly quoting me things from Little Britain...this was before I saw it and wondered what on earth was going on....yeah but no but....

I'm sure shoes are stolen all over the world....I don;t really watch Fair go so don;t know that story.
I still can't see the problem with driving on the beach...I would only do so if I knew the sand was ok......

friendly bunch in general

As a now Australian former kiwi, I have to say that i think you must be special as that is some weird going ons and I can't say that it's the norm because it sounds pretty far out to me, A girl eating cheesecake while serving you is pretty much just plain rude though, a lady dancing on her car well if she was sober she must be a sandwich or two short of a picnic, But I have to say that A current affair and Today tonight have weird stories like that all the time, I remember watching one about a homeless person who had to go to court for stealing a blanket out of a donation bin - cutting edge television.
And yes people drive on the beaches here to, I live near rainbow beach and fraser Island and they have traffic signs on those beaches. I would say laugh it up because life only sometimes presents us with little gems like that.

Sounds like a wonderful place to live. no personal experience with Kiwis. But every country and little section of a country has it odd habits.

Perhaps you should learn a couple of things. The first is tolerance. The second is that there are almost certainly Australian oddities that the rest of the world finds quaint.

But what's with taking your glass back to the bar for a refill? Do they still do that?
