I recently was told that I may have a high chance of getting cervical cancer. I feel so alone and scared. I don't know what I can do to keep my emotions down. I don't know what to do. I am trying to keep on with my every day stuff, but I can't stop thinking about all the questions running through my brain. I can't stop crying and feeling this way. is there anything I can do to calm myself down and know that everything is going to be ok? my brain knows, but my hearts says differently. can anyone help?

Why has your Dr told you this?

Sounds like you have had an abnormal Pap smear, have heard that this could possibly lead to cancer, and have not heard any more. Either that or your Dr hasn't explained fully to you what is going on.

Hopefully the information on the attached link will help a bit.

Take a big breath, calm down and read it.

Well If U Catch It In The First Stages U'll Be Ok...and U Really Can't Die From To Be Honest...But Ways U Can Calm Urself Down Basically What I Had To Do Is Find A Hobby That You Love (dancing, writing, ect.) And Put Alot Of Entergy Into It....It Sounds Weird But It Makes Things Better....And Makes U Healthier!

Hearing that you have a high chance of getting any type of cancer can certainly be depressing. The good news is that with frequent pap smears (if you are concerned I would get more than one a year) this cancer can be detected very early. Also, it is a very curable type of cancer if found early.
I think to help ease your mind you might want to do some research or ask your doctor more questions, so you can be more informed. For some people having the knowledge can bring some reassurance of what needs to be done or how to prevent it. Just make sure you get those pap smears.
I wish you the best.

The key word here is you "may" have a chance of getting cervical cancer. Have yearly pap tests and try to live in the moment. If you are tested regularly your Dr. can catch it early and treat it and you can be just fine.
I just found out that I DO have cervical cancer and it is scary because I have a 3 year old son. So, everyone make sure you get regular pap tests and don't skip any for any reason!

With routine pap smears you'll catch the changes in your cervix that leads to cancer. I wouldn't worry about "what can happen in the future". That will just interfere with your ability to lead a happy life. Just keep on top of those pap smears and you'll do great. When caught early it's curable.

Wow. What a burden to carry. You may want to go back to your doctor and tell him/her that, that statement greatly affected the quality of you life, to the point where it mimics an actual positive diagnosis. Your doctor may be able to give you a much more appropriate answer that may help with your perspective. Good luck.
