is pupitre masculine or feminine and why??

i'm done with all my homework.but that one question.
help please.

Usually Spanish words ending in "o" (ex. un chico)or "e" (ex. el parque, un hombre) are masculine

Its masculine so its EL pupitre, I know that you have probably learned the rule of el= if ends in an o, and la=if ends with an a, but pupitre is one of those that you just have to memorize, like, EL lapiz, EL almacen...and there are many more. I hope this helps...Good Luck! :)
