yes! smoothies are healthy! They have fresh fruit which has antioxidants. They are usually made with yogurt which is a good source of calcium. But, beware that some are made with ice cream....non fat frozen yogurt is a much better choice. If you're making smoothies at home, they are very healthy...and there are so many different fruits to make them with...the possibilities are endless.

If you go to "Jamba juice" or "Juice it up" take a look at the nutrition facts. You'll see how much sugar smoothies have. Anywhere from 40 to 60 g. per 16 oz. That is more then in Pepsi. And sodium too. I don't think every fruit smoothie is healthy. I make my own at home using ingredients that are not loaded with sugar (juice or sorbet) and I use only plain yogurt.
I still go to "juice it up" and get some wheat grass shot ones in a while.

Yes, but no.
If they are all fruit it might be a yes, but not if you are trying to lose weight. Fruit in moderation, like a slice of apple or a cup of grapes might be fine. But if you over do it with a smoothie full of just fruit you are starting an addiction to sweet tasting foods that will lead to eating deserts, candy, and cola drinks with artificial sweeteners. Eating these types of foods will not only make you crave sweet tasting things of all types, even breads, it will make you gain weight very fast.
Yes they are healthy if you do an hour of exercise every day, at least six days a week and limit your smoothies to two a week. This is because of there size.

Don't get used to a lot of sugar free sweetners. A lot of them is not good for you either. I make mine with powdered milk (whips really great), whatever fruit is available and as little splenda as possible. I have also found some sugar free flavored sweetners (splenda) that I use for coffees and extra flavor in the smoothies. I crack ice and blend it so that the smoothies have an ice base-like moolati's without all the fat and calories. The flavorings come in every conceivable flavor-kahlua, white chocolate, chocolate, amaretto, vanilla, french vanilla, egg nog, irish creme and on and on. They allow you as much variety as you can create. I'm diabetic with a craving for ice cream and this gets me over it. Still all the sugar free stuff is not good for you. . .but better than all the fat and sugar. . .and they actually taste pretty good. I've got to the point where I like my coffees better than Starbucks.

I have a fruit smoothie everyday for breakfast and they are only healthy if you do the following things...
> Use 100% pure yoghurt without flavour, sugars or extra ingredients.
> Don't add any sugar into your smootie because the fruit has natural sugars in which taste yummy.
> Never put cream in your smootie, esspecially clotted cream because it contains so much fat and is extremely unhealthy.
> Last and not least just enjoy your smootie.

I can't see why a real fruit and veggy smoothy would be any different than eating them raw? Its ALL blended so you still get everything that the raw form has. Infact maybe better because I get veggies that I would otherwise not eat... Kale yuck! but I mix iy with a smoothy I don't even notice it. If your like me, you do not eat the fruits and veggie as often as recommended. Throw a little chia seed and flax seed in just for good measure.
