In terms of ride quality, the RAV 4 drives more like the traditional car. The Xterra has a little harsher ride. The Xterra is more offroad capable than the RAV 4 which is considered a crossover like the Honda CRV.

The RAV4 is built on a car chassis and the Xterra is built on a truck chassis. The RAV4 is much smaller but gets 50% better fuel mileage than the Xterra. The Xterra has a lot more crunch when you need to get out of a parking lot into dense traffic as it has a very adequate V6 engine.

The two don't actually compare with eachother the Rav 4 is a small SUV and the Xterra is a midsize Offroading SUV. Rav 4 is a 4cyl. and Xtrarra is a V6. Just from that you can see that they don't really compare. Nissan is making the Rogue which is a mini version of the Murano and it will be compared to the Rav 4. The Rogue will be relased sometime this month at the dealership I work for and I can't wait its going to be an awesome vehicle.

The xterra is build pretty much just for the outdoor use. If you want a nicer ride, better quality, and all around great looking car with good resale value and gas mileage, go with the RAV4. It also sits 7 and have more safety features.

Just like a corolla vs a real car? Rav-4 is a unitized body 4 cyl front wheel drive. ANd the Xterria is a 265 hp truck with a real frame. 4x4 of the year the past two years. Rav-4 is a prentender and really not very tough. The rav-4 gets better gas mileage, The Xterria climbs like a moutain goat!
