Okay what I want to know is why if it's the same church is it named differently in Europe and in America? In Europe it's known as the Epicopalian Church and the religion is known as Episcopalianism. But in America it's know as the Anglican Church and the religion is known as Anglicanism. But why is it named differently? Both by the way are Liberal Protestant denominations of Christianity for those who may not know not that I'm either.

They are essentially synonymous. 'Episcopal' means that the church is governed by Bishops, rather than having a papal figurehead.

'Anglican' literally means 'English' or 'from England'. The episcopal Church of England was formed when Henry VIII decided to officially declare it as the state religion, separating itself from Rome and papal authority, to facilitate his divorce proceedings [circa 1500s].

Hope that helps.

Peace be with you.
