I am so sorry for your loss. I was on Prozac for a number of years.
I did not experience any side effects with it. Though some people experience a loss of sex drive
It made me feel better about life.
The only withdrawal symptoms I've heard of from others with it is nausea. I stopped it slowly with my doctors advise, after it stopped working for me, with no adverse effects. Of course he put me on another one.
It generally takes 2 to 6 weeks to build up in your system enough to where you can tell it is working.
No, no medication can change your personality.
Some advise for you:
Every one is different and medications act differently in every one. So what works for some may not work for others. This is why there are so many types of antidepressants.
Be honest with your doctor about how you're feeling both mentally and physically, so he/she will know whats going on and will be able to adjust/change your medication as needed.
Read all of the information the pharmacy gives you about the medication.
Keep all appointments with your doctors. Be sure to ask him/her any questions you have. (I find it helpful to write them down the day before your appointment)
You can always ask the pharmacist where you get them filled at. They are a great free resource and have a great wealth of knowledge
I hope you feel better soon.

Prozac is not right for everyone. Do try it and see how it works for u. If u have problems your doctor can always try u on something else that will work better. Prozac was not right for me. Prozac is easy to get off of. It made me dizzy and did not seem to do anything. As with any antidepressan they can take anywhere from a few weeks to a month to really start working. Some I have tried that I thought were better are Zoloft and Amitriptyline. Amitriptyline can make u very tired in the morning though. Beware of any alcolhol while taking antidepressants. Some good counseling will help u too. I am very sorry for your loss.

Hey don't be scared for starts just stay honest with yourself on how you feel.
I was on prozac when my twin daughters were born and one died. Work with your dr and family.
As far as changing me it never did it just helped me relax and understand I was ok and the hopeless feels did go away in a few weeks. The medication should not change your personality in fact it smay help it come out more.
Taking any meds if you don't like how you feel tell your dr. You may need another type of med. Prozac is one of the safer ones. low side affects as well. I had none

any medication can have side effects and what affects one person may not affect another. i am on it and i have no problems. try it and keep an eye on how you are feeling if you don't seem to be getting better see your doctor. just remeber it can take the upwards of 4-6 weeks before you feel the full effects. also, talk to your doctor about your reservations and get a better explaination from him.

Yes. It can be helpful....but it needs some testing by every patient to see if that is the case again..
It does NOT make you happy. It takes of the edge enough to give you a chance to be happy if you work at it. It is not (contrary to common belief) a medication that will cure you. It merely gives you the opportunity to...how shall I say this... reinvent yourself again.

I was once on Prozac,...I didnt like it. It makes your head spin with a lot of things. It makes you think WAY too much, and not even about positive things. It makes your emotions WAY too intense, like you have bi-polar disorder. It might work different for you, thats just how it worked for me

If you think or believe that Prozac is helpful, then it is.
Of course, if you think or believe that rubbing tomato slices in your armpits is helpful, then it is.
