Why is it that everytime i attempt to display my beliefs in either class or anywhere else in general, i always get some crap about "Jesus is the only way, you MUST go to him, believe in him"? What if i dont want to. In school, if we are having a religious DEBATE, why do we get ridiculed for being different? Why are we hated so much? Do christians hate us so much that they feel like they MUST make us believe in their religion? I have no religion, and i desire none. I do not want any scripture in your replies, so please save yourself some time, it means nothing to me. O, and did anyone see who wrote the bible? they were "inspired" by god. did anyone see them inspired? i can point out so many flaws... so any input in this thought process will be used approperately. I do not discriminate, so feel free to take whatever side you want :D
thanks. \m/ ^_^ \m/

i dont shove my beliefs down others' throats, but i do get an awful lot of christians who ridicule me. And those who just bashed me, you have no respect for other human beings. I just asked a question for feedback into other peoples' opinions. I did not mean this as a bash. If it feels that way, i apologize.

Dude, I feel you.
I'm not Atheist, but Wiccan. And believe me, if you want to send a Christian into a tailspin, just tell them you are Wiccan! I think is scares the pants off of them. They think I'm a devil worshipper or something, it's crazy.
My boyfriend is Atheist, and we have no problem with each other's beliefs. But both of us get the whammy if a Christian finds out what we believe (or don't believe, in his case!)
What it comes down to, I think, is that most traditional Christians have had no education about religion (or lack of it), outside of what they are told at church. They just believe what they are told and don't try to get any other information on the matter. I think this makes them extremely one-sided, they have no capacity for any other way of thinking. It's almost a mania with them, if they hear that someone else believes differently. They MUST point out to that person that they are WRONG and going to freaking HELL. Obviously they have been brainwashed. And obviously, they have learned ZERO about compassion, which is supposed to be the central point of the teachings of Jesus. They know nothing about the true nature of God. If God is Love (that's a scripture by the way), then Love is what God feels for me, you, and anyone else. Last time I checked, anyone that loves me wouldn't ever, ever dream of throwing me into an eternal pit of fire. No one deserves that. So to me, the Christians have got it all terribly wrong, not me and you.
Even if you don't believe in God, you could use that argument to counterattack, if you wanted. But really, you'd be wasting your breath. Those people are tenacious in their weird beliefs. Best to just go on believing what you feel is right for you, and say nothing. If it ends up there really *is* a God after all, I think you'll be alright.

I'm a Christian, and I don't hate atheists. You have to realize that in almost any kind of forum, when you present one belief, you will usually be confronted with the opposing belief. I'm a conservative voter, and if I am in a classroom, I will be confronted with liberal politics. I don't need to be offended by that.
Or you could look at it this way: If your house was burning down, and you were asleep in bed, and your neighbor saw the fire but didn't tell you because he didn't want to offend you or upset you, he'd be a pretty rotten friend.
As Christians, we believe in a literal understanding of the Bible, which says that anyone who doesn't accept the forgiveness God is offering through Jesus, is destined for eternal punishment. Although some Christians, to their shame, become obnoxious and arrogant in sharing their faith, others of us talk to people like you not for personal profit but simply out of a neighborly concern for your welfare.
You might find it interesting to know that in modern America, those of us who are Christians tend to feel the same way you do- marginalized, disliked, ridiculed. Society treats faith as a crutch or a fantasy. We often feel discriminated against. It is much easier to be quiet and not draw attention than it is to actually speak up and be recognized as a Christian.

well I am a christian and I do not force my beliefs on others and to say that i have a lack of brain because I believe is very childish and I could same the same thing about non-believers but I don't cause it is your choice to believe what you want. And most christian feel that they are trying to help you and not trying the shove things down your throat. I personally do share my beliefs, just like you have the right to share that you are an athiest. And if the person I am talkin to doesn't want to hear it then I leave them alone. You can't get people to become christians by aggrivating them, so I leave it alone and pray for them and that is that

I feel the same way. Except I wonder why the atheists have to keep pushing disbelief down my throat. I have never tried to push my beliefs on anyone. That's purely a personal thing. I cant help but notice that atheists dont seem to be able to go a day without calling believers fools. I'll keep what I think of atheists to myself. After all-it's only my opinion.

It's funny...all I see is a bunch of atheists sarcastically bashing Christians on here. You do not have to believe anything at all. But I must tell you that the reason we tell you Christ is the only way is because it is true. Even if you don't believe it, it truly is and I have plenty of personal experience to back it up. They are telling you this because they don't want you to perish, but to experience the joy they have. The reason we preach to others is because we know no one is guaranteed their next breath. If you are wrong when you die, it's gonna really suck for you. If we are wrong, it doesn't matter. PLEASE pray that God will reveal truth to you before it's too late.....yes pray...even if you don't believe. You have nothing to lose and eternity to gain.

I am a Christian, and I don't hate you. We as Christians are taught to teach the word to all, esp. unbelievers because we want you to go to heaven too. Now there are a few of us who DO take it overboard. Your personal beliefs are a VERY touchy subject, like politics, sexual preference, or say abortion. People love to debate these issues. I guess I don't really have a definite answer for you, but I would like to apologize because Christians are taught to LOVE, and love EVERYBODY at that. If you think that we hate you then I would like to personally apologize on their behalf. A true Christian does not hate, ridicule, or belittle anyone, regardless of their beliefs, race, age or gender.
Take care

Probably because nearly every atheist I have come across becomes combative, even if the person is being nice.If you don't want to believe in God,that's your business. But don't you dare try to question why bad things happen,or why did God let this happen if you refuse to believe in him.Ask yourself this question. What makes you believe that your opinion is right, and everyone else is wrong?Another question you can ask yourself is,were you there to disprove the creation of the world?Even if you are pointing out flaws doesn't make your stand anymore right.Human reason cannot and never will answer all questions.

Atheists are quite preachy as well. Atheists quite often belittle the intelligence and mental strength of those who DO believe, so unfortunately some who believe feel the need to retaliate.
True christians don't hate other people, those who spew hate and condemn atheists to hell aren't being true to how the bible tells christians to act.
Everyone has free will, so a person's choice should not be used to belittle them or their intelligence in any way.

Some people are fanatics. I believe that in God, but i don't shove anything down anyone's throat. I believe that a person can choose to believe in whomever or whatever they want. I don't think it's right that people try to force others to believe in exactly what others believe. I'm also of the opinion that just because one chooses NOT to believe in something that it should be one's quest in life to thwart other's beliefs. it's not cool. i know a lot of people like that.

I think one of the biggest challenges with any person that professes their religion is that they forget they are professing their "Faith".
Faith is simply a strongly held belief, and many people feel the need to extend their faith beyond themselves as a means of reinforcing their faith. Breakdown the word "athiest" and you will discover that it simply means "without faith". I fully support you in your decision to seek your own truth!
Myself, I'm agnostic - there has got to be some sort of higher "power" or "force", but our human intellect simply hasn't been able to figure it out yet.
Good luck in your quest, and always be who you are!
