Darvocet is weaker than a Vicodin, but it is excellent for pain relief in patients who are narcotic shy, meaning they have never taken a pain pills regularly.
The next step up would be a vicodin. Vicodin comes in 3 strengths 5mg 7.5mg and 10 mg. Usually Vicodin is administered in the smallest 5 mg tablet and they will increase it based on the pain level the pt is complaining about.
I was prescribed Vicodin 10 mg (also called Lorcet 10) once for an ear infection. I swallowed the 1st tablet then left my house to get a Pizza and got caught waiting on a long train and by the time I got home, I was so freaking sedated I plopped the pizza on the table and laid down and didnt wake up for hours. It took my ear pain away though which was sweet relief thank God. I left them in the medicine cabinet and after that took 1/2 tablet only 1 more time. I think the pills expired and I ended up tossing them out.

Davocet is MUCH weaker than Vicodin. It's the narcotic doctors give when they don't want to give a narcotic... really not much stronger than regular Tylenol. For some people it works quite well. For me, I might as well be taking a placebo, but then again I have chronic pain and take very strong painkillers for it (Oxycontin and OxyFast Solution). It may work very well for you. If it doesn't, talk to your doctor and let him/her know that you aren't getting relief from the medication.

Darvocet and Vicodin are actually both in the same drug class (narcotic analgesics). Darvocet = propoxyphene and acetaminophen, Vicodin = hydrocodone and acetaminophen.
It's just that some people respond better to one than the other...not necessarilly that one is stronger than the other.

I think darvacet and vicodin are pretty much the same. I guess everyone is different. It may work better for u or less or it could be the same.
