I'm wondering if it's sweet, dry, bitter, etc. I'm interested in trying it but would like to have an idea before I buy some. Any suggestions on where to buy or a type would be great too!

There are many grades of Sake, just like there are grades of grape wines.

The Sake served warm in your average American Japanese restaurant is of very poor quality. It has a unique taste all it's own, I would say it tends towards dry. First time I had it was with a group of friends at a Japanese steak house, we had great fun that evening - the chef kept saying "suckem up". and we did.

If you go to a high end Japanese restaurant, such as Nobo, you will find a wider variety of Sake to try, served cold. Once again the flavor is unique to Sake but smooth and tends toward the dry side. Some restaurants also make a Sake martini - mixing the Sake with vermouth or some other alcohol, I once had a plum wine/Sake martini at a place in Ottawa that was really good.

Consider what Sake is. It's an alcoholic beverage made from the fermentation of rice. Rice doesn't have a strong flavor, therefore neither does Sake.

It taste like Sake!!! Truly its hard to describe and there are several types. The best way is to just buy a small bottle and try it. Chances are you wont like it at first. Like sushi, its kind of an aquired taste.

Most people drink it hot but I preffer cold. Put the bottle in the fridge and serve in a small glass. Get some salt and put some on the rim with every drink. Its fabulous.

Sake is a rice wine so it has no more alcohol than normal wine.

Cheers

its a surprising flavor. I dont want to say vinegary because that would imply sour, and its not sour. But it smacks of that.
I have only had it once and at first didnt like it but by the third little pitcher, had a great glow going.
:-)

I had sake heated up and i remember it being strong. Not much after that because it caught up to me and I was out of there. Be careful if you drink it!!!

It's very strong and gross in my opinion...it'll get you drunk rather quickly. I drank some Saki bombers and that was easier to take...drop a shotglass of Saki in a glass of beer and drink up.
