How long has he been on the medication? If he just started it, you can't assume that it's going to work in a day. In fact, it will take 3 days to start to have any effect.
What did he say was wrong? Was he bit by a bug or something...an allergic reaction?
Finish whatever medication that doctor gave you, and if you don't like the results after a few days then take the cat back to the doctor for a recheck. If it's been a few days, then go now!

Use the medicine the vet gave you, it's probably to get the swelling down and stop the histamine reaction.
The eyes should heal ok, it sounds like a bee or wasp sting and those to go away. The main thing is to make sure the cat can breathe.

That happened to my cat when she was stung by a bee on the nose. The vet said to give her benedryl, that will help bring the swelling down. Try putting some crushed ice into a baggie, wrap in a washcloth, and hold against kitty's nose. I believe the benedryl is 1mg for every 2 pounds but check first with your vet before giving your cat any meds.

The vet should have explained all this to you, but maybe if he was behind scheduke he may have wanted to be as quick as possible. You have paid money for your cats treatment and therefore you have the right to ask any questions you may have. Give them a call. Maybe have all questions written down so you don't forget anything. I am asuuming the only reason your cat can't see is because his eyes are swollen shut, so that would mean once he can open his eyes he should be fine. Is he still eating and drinking? Make sure your cat is drinking water as that is very important. You don't want you cat to dehydrate.

I'm not sure what the vet told you was the cause, but my cat once had one side of her nose swell up and one of her eyes started to become squinty due to the swelling. According to my vet, these swellings are caused by an infection in the root of one of the cat's teeth that causes the nose to swell, which in turn causes their eyes to closed. I am guessing that depending on how bad the infection was, it may take awhile to recover. My cat was not nearly as bad as this sounds and it took her 2-3 days of antibiotics to get back to normal.
