Well, they are not exactly deep sea, but there are sharks that go after mollusks. I think the nurse shark is one.

Mac has the right idea about Codfish in the North.

If your more in the southern (US), Sheephead, Croaker, at times Redfish, and various "trash" fish & "dinks" like Sailcats, Sailors Choice, Toadfish, saltwater Cats, Etc.

Fresh clams can be tough to find for bait ,(in the south).

As to "deep sea" fish? If I'm on a reef in FLA, GA, TX, LA, AL, Etc, I wouldn't be using clams, I'd be using either live-bait or "cut-bait".

Some Wrasses,trigger fish Parrotfish.

Codfish especially in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine.

Trigger fish will eat any type of shell fish, so do sheephead trout, both fish are very tasty.

make sure you got a heavy weight on the line....but clams will catch cod, wolfish, and always dogfish. (a.k.a. sand sharks)
