The problem with the bible is that its been edited and translated from so many different languages that you can't trust what it says. Also there are so many contradictions in the bible that you can't follow every word exactly. I also wonder why so much of jesus life is missing. If he was such a great man then why miss out the middle years of his life because surely these are just as important as the beginning and the end - how can you truly know him if you don't know wbout his life?

I think, back when the bible was being put together they didn't want us to know what an ordinary jew he was (yes jesus was a jew and not a christian, he just wanted to change the jewish system because it'd got so corrupt, not create a new religion) because no doubt he got married and had a family as all jews did. They wanted to show he was more like god than he was.

No doubt the bible does some feature some truths, or is based on truths about a man who simply wanted to change judaism, you can't take every word literally.

first and foremost; i take Gods word literally.

i think that it's hard to understand it all, but the same ways i explore trying to understand what some of it means, i use also to know that it is accurate. prayer! if you don't get your answer the first time, then resort to persistent prayer!

in addition, the gospels tell us that, it was written with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, by objective people e.g. Paul who witnessed some of the events that happened to persecuted christians, when Paul himself wasn't a christian, and others.

fair enough God didn't write the bible Himself, but He told the authors, in some way or other, what to write.

and for these reasons and others, i conclude that the bible is Gods accurate word.
Blessings x

I believe in god and am an ex catholic. I can never understand these christians who say the bible is gods word.
It isn't. However it is a really interesting collection of writings from various sources.
If you consider that these writings are actual accounts of events which happened, then they need to be understood from a modern world perspective.
The church left many writings out of the bible, some of them are quite horrific as they give a much more detailed account of how man was created, and it's not in any way dissimiliar to modern day genetic experiments.
A mass of scientific evidence now shows that a flood did happen, worldwide, and actually shows what caused it.
If you imagine that tomorrow this world gets hit by seven large comets, at least four landing in the sea at high speed,
enough to make the seas rise and cover the world. And if you imagine a handful of survivors living to tell the tale to future generations. All technology would be wiped out, man would be starting again. Some of the survivors might have technical or scientific skills, but they would be too busy surviving to educate their sons. The technological world would have to start all over again. The teachings of the new founders of humanity would initially be passed down mouth to mouth, but one day would be written down. A lot of the original teaching would lose its meaning, and science would take on a mystical quality.
Examining many biblical and non biblical doccuments, we can see from todays perspective how many of these stories can be true, but it does depend on more accurate translations and on viewing ALL doccuments, not just the biblical ones.
As a brief example, without going to deep, amino acids are the building blocks of life, man could actually have been made from the dust of the earth!
Noah took the SEED of all living things onto the ark, in test tubes possibly!
Ok, here it is impossible to qualify these statements, but you can see where i am coming from.
Loads of new information coming to light about the origins of this planet and life, both from a scientific point of view and an ancient historical point of view.
Neither science nor religion should be taken lightly, and maybe more should be done to consolidate both views.

That's not what I concluded after studying the Bible...

How can it be God's word if sections of it have so obviously been written by humans?

I recommend The Signature Of God by Grant R. Jeffrey. It comes in DVD and book form.

If there is a God who can create the universe? Don't you think He can move upon men to write His words and keep them throughout ages?

I don't believe most Christians take every word as a literal translation... some are meant to inspire.. some are meant to teach.. some are meant to invoke thought....

but I could be wrong

When you are under conviction of sin - then you know.

For want of that, then you can be proud and judgemental.
