Keep your professional life and your personal life separate.

It's OK to socialize on occasion with co-workers but "partying with the boss on the weekends" sounds like it would be too easy to do or say something you'd regret on Monday. Don't put yourself in that situation.

It is not ok to party with your boss and co-workers.
You might show up and talk, have one beer and make a graceful exit-gotta study or baby-sit or feed your cat.
Be friendly and happy to see everyone and regret you have to go. And then GO!

Work is what you do for a living. Partying is what you do with friends, where you can say what you think, and burp really loud.
Do not confuse the 2 or you will end up with one missing.
Never, ever get drunk around your boss or co-workers. Even if THEY are drunker that YOU, they will remember you as the company drunk who lit his farts and tried to make out with the boss's wife. It will kill your reputation with your co-workers, and any future authority in your company as a manager.

At my first real job, the boss loved to take us out for drinks at lunch or after work. It was fun for awhile. But eventually, we were sorry for it. Your boss shouldn't know too much about your life outside of work, or inevitably they will hold it against you in some way. I would say, hanging with co-workers is probably OK, but with the boss - no.

Well if you are in total controll and do not say anything derogatory, I think it is risky, unless you are looking to get into a situation that may get you fired/or given a raise, too many variables.

keep your cool ,have a couple of drinks but stay sober.watch what they do. this will give you an idea of how to deal with it the next time you all go out together.

once in a while is OK, but you tend to lose respect for someone when they get drunk and act like a fool.
