I agree with other answerers that both have strong points, both have good and bad points.
However, I strongly disagree with Mr.knowitall. Canadians are NOT easier going and more friendly than Americans. They are more polite. Very, very polite. Traditional.
Canadians tend to be more uptight, more rigid, more judgemental. Americans are more open, easier to get to know, and more accepting of alternate lifestyles. Canadians are more cliquish and more likely to live in isolated communities of like individuals. Americans are more community oriented.
While winter weather is more agreeable in much of the U.S.; summer weather is not. More people (in the U.S.) means more crime, more pollution, etc.
Personally, I prefer Canada to the U.S. for a number of reasons, most notably the smaller population and natural beauty, especially in the northern half of the country.

I would agree with pretty much all the posters. I especially enjoy who there aren't too many negatives throw in, and this topic has been quite civil.
But I do believe that Canada is more liberal the the U.S., gay marriages are legal here, and you see multicultural couples everywhere. I haven't seen this in too many places in the U.S. except for San Francisco....however I still haven't gone to the Northwest, so I can't comment about Seattle and such.

It's better in some ways and the US is better in some ways. Canada is less crowded, people are more relaxed and friendly. The culture is better, more civil, more communitarian, more pluralistic and tolerant, less mean-spirited. And of course health care is better in Canada and easier to get.
The US has better climate, especially in the Winter. I think the employment situation is better here. And you pay less in taxes, especially if you're really wealthy.

I think there are pros and cons to each country. The U.S. has better weather, but Canada has less people, so it really depends on what your personal preferences are.

It all depends on the experience you are looking for. Each country has its good and bad points, just like anywhrere else.
