I'm a smoker and it's been lots of fun! Don't think the authorities meant it to end up this way, but it is.

Banning smoking in pubs and clubs etc has had the effect that smokers go outside, meet lots of other smokers and know instantly that they have common ground. Loads of new relationships have started, thanks to the smoking ban.

Its also great fun teasing Environmental Wardens. All you have to do is stand on the pavement, smoke your ciggie, and then look around, all panicky-like for somewhere to bin the cigarette end. Make sure the Warden can see you doing this because they will look away pretending they're not looking! Then pop the end into the wee tinny that you have ready in your pocket! Drives them crazy!

On the serious side, loads of folks have (quite sensibly) stopped smoking so now your and my tax will go up by some whallop because our beloved government has to find all that lovely money that they used to collect from the tax on ciggies from somewhere.

Oh and a wee question......if it's SO bad for you, why are they still allowed to sell 'em?

Made in England, you're talking crap.

Government figures show that wet led only pubs, ( you know the ones where people go to after a hard days work for a pint and a smoke with there mates) are down 25% since the onset of the ban.
Prior to the ban, wet led pubs were only just surviving anyway, what with the breweries upping the rent every year, and the rates increases.
I suppose if the landlords had to rely on your contribution, they would have all closed down years ago.

If you never liked it, tough, drink your wkd at home instead.

You might not have to endure a cloud of smoke inside a boozer now, but still have to run the gauntlet getting into one. It's a permanent mist outside pubs now since the ban came in. The least they could do is put covered areas outside (preferably at the back of a pub) for the smokers to go. Also prevents pissheads abusing you as you walk past on the street!

I freaking LOVE the smoking ban!!!
I don't come back stinking of smoke, I can speak the morning after a night out because other people's filthy poisonous smoke hasn't been grating against my oesophagus all night long, I can breathe without having to cover my nose and mouth with my hand, meaning my friends and family can understand what I am trying to say to them... it's the best thing ever!! It should have been done years ago!!

Cr*p. All the non smokers i meet are moaning at how empty the pubs are!. The smokers are staying away and its still summer (allegedly).
I think this is the end of the British pubs as we know them. In our area the amount of pubs up for sale or to let is amazing, and these number will grow in winter.
Next thing to be hit will be booze prices. Who will be moaning then

"I think this is the end of the British pubs as we know them."

LOL, whatever!

I love the smoking ban - it hasn't affected the number of people using my local pub, and if the smokers want to go off and cry about it, then they can... We are all better off without them - disgusting murderers.
