You are right. We need to rely on ourselves, and not expect God to do everything for us. Sometimes, God can lead you in the right direction, but He isn't normally going to make decisions for you. That's what life is for! We are supposed to make our own way, leaning on Him for support and help when we really need it.
James 2:20 says "Faith without works is dead". We have to do something for ourselves, we can't just sit back and say "God will take care of that".
That being said, sometimes the blessings we get are the hard work we put into something. It can also be the learning of a new thing that is the blessing. If we don't take the time we are given to learn and grow, then this life has been for nothing, and we will have to answer for all that wasted time.
There are also what people call "free will". I call it agency. It isn't free. We pay for it. Maybe not now, but sometime we will pay for our mistakes, and for not acting when we should have.
I know for me, I always feel better about my self and my situation when I have done something to better it. Yes, I could sit back and say "God will clean that room for me, or send me someone to do it for me if I pray hard enough". That isn't going to work. I can't expect God to take care of my obligations here. Yes, we can ask people for help, or there are times when people show up to help when we really need it, but that is an execption, not the rule.
Don't get me wrong, I have a lot of faith. I know that God would help me if I ask Him, but He isn't going to step in and take over my life. I've seen kids who parents have done that, and they grow up and become lazy burdens on society. I don't think our Father in Heaven wants that of us. And that is what we would become- spiritually speaking- if He stepped in all the time.

Because most church goers were taken to church from an early age, as was their parents and so forth. If you keep telling a child such things they grow up believing it 100% and can not understand anyone questioning it. They are taught the reasoning of god made it happen, or god moves in mysterious ways. I was brought up catholic so I know how it works! It was hard for me to take the blinkers off so it must be near impossible for those born into families with ferverent beliefs who have no support to be able to think out of the religious box. I know I am going to get inundated with thumbs down for this but it is brainwashing. It took a long time for me to get over xtianity. I am not bitter anymore towards the church as it is the fault of people long dead.

basically some people pick god. the main situation with god-followers is that it extremely is a egocentric pursuit. all of them pick to spend eternity in heaven, that is why they bypass by way of al the rituals and rigmarol. i think of which you're probably outstanding, if those people did no longer believe in god they had be uncontrolled, it truly is strictly what god became invented for, to regulate the loads. i'm ethical, being concerned, loving, i'm a humanist, i'm non-judgemental (in assessment to maximum Christians), I take exhilaration in life, i'm an achiever, I truly have attractive daughters who've on no account been a situation, thay are the two achievers. we are all charitable and we glance out for individuals and help them. Our doorways are continually open to the homeless, the needy, etc. wager what? we are all atheists! No we don't pick a god to worship, no we don't seek for a place in (legendary) heaven, no, we are no longer scared approximately going to hell if we don't worship pie-in-the-sky. we are no longer component to a cult that judges others by way of their sexual techniques or their shade or their creed.

I think that everything happens as a result of one of three reasons---
One's own choices-
Sometimes the good and bad in our lives happen because of our own wise (knowingly or not) choices.
Others' choices-
Other times, the things that happen are because of others' choices....
Life-
And sometimes, life just happens.
Having said that, I feel that all blessings from God are because we've obeyed Him in some way, again- knowingly or not. He's given us the rules of the game (commandments), along with the objective (happiness, salvation).... if we follow the rules, we'll obtain the objective.

Haven't you ever heard that you reap what you sow? God doesn't solve our problems for us, He gives us guidance on how to solve our own problems. Once in a long while, He throws in a miracle or two. This world is a blessing, and He created it, so obviously, blessings do come from Him.
The Lord helps those who help themselves.

There are a lot of hard working people out in the world that are successful and are not Christians. God has the power to stop the evil in this world, but he choses not to because of free will. "All things work together for the glory of God for those who are called according to His purpose."

Yes, good point. So many people wait around for God to lead them to a job or apartment or a mate. We need to get off our butts and go out doing our best to find the things we need and then God will open doors and bless our efforts. That annoys me, too.

Blessings are upon those who "obey" God's Will and are "Doers" of His Word. God as "Father" loves and cares for His children. We live in a world of trouble and are in need of the Father's provision. And there are times when God lets us learn from the school of "hard knocks" and there are times when we are shown that we have to totally rely upon Him and His Word by faith. My Father knows everything about everything and it is hard having patience when God is teaching you important facts about life and the supernatural and what is it that puts our faith to the test? Trials and tribulations..Yet, God is the Author and finisher of my faith and right now He is teaching me my duties as a king and how to be more like my elder brother, "Jesus." And it is awesome to know how to have power over demons, sickness, and the elements of this world but what amazes me most is the fact that my Father in heaven loves me and loves spending time with me and whatever problems the devil might throw at me, my father has given me an Armour of protection and weaponry to use against him. So, hard work does bring it's reward but God has desires as well, and that is to have fellowship with those who have called on His name. And when people do, He meets their every need according to the riches in glory by Christ Jesus, my brother and King.

Well, I sincerely believe that the essence of christianity does cause one to "solve their own problems" A christian does this by reforming their life, doing one's best to not sin, becoming mature and responsible, doing good and living your life in an edifying way.
I think its rather silly that christians get bashed on one side for holding too high of standards for individuals and then getting bashed on the other side for "letting God solve their problems"
So which is it? Are we too lax or too restricting? No one can seem to agree...

Because a lot of Americans think of God as a cosmic Santa Claus, handing out goodies to the nice and punishing the naughty. It's simpler that way, no thinking required, until something bad happens to a good person...
