In my last job, I had such a terrible boss that I am affected mentally and emotionally. He was an extremely intimidating person who commanded respect. He had a way about him that made people in the depatment look up to him and everyone wanted to please him. If we got kudos from him, it made our day. If we go negative feedback from the boss- we were crestfallen.
Anyway, he decided I was not good enough for his team and fired me. He liked to stare, smirk, yell and scream at me and he liked the fact that he was able to intimidate me. He liked playing the bully. I knew he was a bad man, but something about him made me want to keep trying to please him. Well, I failed and now the fight is out of me. I have struggled going back to work and would rather just watch TV and play with the Internet.
Can you relate?

On my last day he called me an idiot and said that any employer would be a fool for hiring me. He said he would not give a reference and would see I did not get a good job if he could help it.

Don't let him do that to you! He was a control freak, a bully, an egotistical maniac with DUH disease. Don't let him ruin your life like that. He is still controlling you if you fear getting another job!!! Don't let him continue to control you. Take a stand! Look yourself straight in the eye and tell yourself you won't be intimidated by that NOOB ever again! Then go out and find a real job with a real boss!!! They are out there and you deserve one.
Get off your butt, stop whining and letting him control you and take back your life!! YOU CAN DO IT and prove him wrong!!

yes, I've had several bosses that made it their job to make my life hell, did whatever they could do to discredit me and make me look bad. Both jobs I quit, the last job I dreaded every morning and stopped sleeping because I just couldn't face another day there. I didn't want to even look for a job, I couldn't bring myself to work for another tyrant so I had the agency place me at a temp assignment until something came along, I figured I would work temp and if I liked the boss I'd stay if I didn't I could stop working there. I ended up staying for four years at one of the assignments they hired me after two weeks, by that time I got a good feel for the boss and got a long with him really well, he was laid back and easy going and he NEVER tried to intimidate me.
You'll find some place new, if this really bothers you, seek counceling. Remember, your boss is a bully and he gets his kicks intimidating people and seeing how high they are willing to jump, he's covering up for his own insecurity. He would have had more respect for you if you'd stood up for yourself and not let him put you down. However, I of all people know how hard it is to stand up to your boss for fear of being fired. I tell you I got fired from a job and never said anything and always regretted it, the next time I stood up for myself, even though my supervisor thinks I should have tried to ingratiate myself to the manager doing the firing, I was fed up and there was no way I was going to grovel for a job I had no chance of keeping.

i know what you mean. my boss is a jerk and thinks everyone should kiss the ground he walks on but cannot do any of the actual work because he doesn`t know how. he is just the owner and has been in business for 30 years and cannot do even the simplest of tasks. he has always had someone holding his hand and doing his work and never gives credit to the good employees. everyone has quit who is any good and the only ones left are not there by choice. there are only a handful of jobs in my line of work and i feel trapped in a dead end situation. on the bright side i think he is about to go bankrupt because of all the good people left and word is finally getting around that he is an idiot.

Well, you need to get right back out there. The chances of you getting another boss like that are slim. Your probably depressed anyway from losing you job, the sooner you get on with your life and get a new job the sooner you will forget about him and the job. Sounds like your better off, nobody should have to put up with someone like that. Also take time out and pray for strength to get through this you will be surprised how he can help!

Not really ,
I had several of those type of bosses ,
But when they got out of line , I told them
( in politically correct format tho )
To go F--- themselves .
I suck up whatever knowledge they pass on ,
But when they get stupid attitude ,
I know there are lots of other jobs out there and
I NEVER take crap . It would make me a wuss .
One boss guy was getting arrogant attitude and he reminded me of a cartoon character .
I started laughing and egging him on .
He eventually had smoke coming out his ears and made a total fool of himself in front of lots of people .
I got high 5's from others later , and no other supervisor tried any reprimands . I was good at being politically correct when I went into Mind F--k mode .
