We are thinking of getting a Beagle puppy. We already have a 7 year old female westie. The new puppy would be female too. Would they get along? Also are they cuddly dogs because I really want a nice snuggly one as well as playful. Are they good pets in general? Are they yappy too?

I owned two beagles that eventually went on to a have a HUGE litter of puppies! We enjoyed them so much. I would recommend getting a beagle. They are even tempered, playful, happy, and I have even found them to be snuggly too. Mine was always laying right up against me like a baby!! We never had problems with them being yappy. I would say though, if you can, slowly introduce the new puppy to your dog. Just to make sure they will be ok. Animals are as different as people and sometimes they may not want another animal. If you are getting the new pup from someone who has a litter, ask them if you could bring your dog to help introduce a new puppy.

I have a Beagle. She's almost 14 and I got her when she was a puppy. Beagles are very social with other dogs, so she should get along fine with your Westie (provided your Westie likes the puppy, that is.). Actually, my Beagle hated being alone!! She howled, so we got our other dog to keep her company. No more howling.
Generally, Beagles are very good dogs but they are strong willed and tough to train. They are scent dogs, too, so they tend to wander off while following a scent. You have to keep them enclosed. They also LOVE to eat so it is important to watch their diet so they don't get fat.
I love Beagles and I would totally get another one. Just give your puppy lots of attention and be firm. They are fun, adorable dogs.

Beagle pups never sit still so be ready for a really really hiper puppy!
When you bring the dog home let them met eachother in the front yard first that bring them in the house on a leash together and see how they do! But dont carry the new puppy while the other is on a leash walking cause the westie will get jealous and depressed!
treat them equally even though the new pup will need more attention than the older one but atleast try

Beagles are great dogs.

They do tend to be sensitive and submissive amd prone to weight issues

The Beagle is a gentle, sweet, lively and curious dog that just loves everyone! A happy little tail-wagger! Sociable, brave and intelligent. Calm and loving. Excellent with children and generally good with other dogs, but should not be trusted with non-canine pets, unless they are socialized with cats and other household animals when they are young. Beagles have minds of their own. They are determined and watchful and require patient, firm training. This breed doesn't like being left alone. Consider buying two if you will be gone a lot. A Beagle has a loud baying cry that was a delight to hunting horsemen, but can be disturbing to family and neighbors. Beagles have a tendency to follow their own noses. They may take off on their own exploration if let off their leash in an unfenced area.

I would never suggest having 2 dogs of the same sex. They may get along, but you can be more certain of them getting on if one is female & the other male (one should be neutered obviously). Beagles are very difficult to train to come back. They are hounds and once they get on the scent of something - they are off!! Other than that, they are a very nice breed.

I have found Beagles to be exceptionally good pets. They are very affectionate, not difficult to train and are entertaining. Almost any puppy will get along with other dogs when raised with them. However, Beagles are social with other dogs in general anyway. I'm not sure if they're lap dogs but they are very family oriented. I consider them to be the golden retrievers of hounds. But as I just said, they're hounds so they howl. Beagle owners learn to tolerate the howling.

any dog is generally a good dog if raised properly, unless they are rogue which is fairly uncommon, they may accept each other if given equal attention, and shown to each other on arrival. any puppy will be yappy but beagle more than westie as they are used for hunting so may speak up if see a smaller animal, i.e. fox, squirrel. i think beagle are good dogs in general because they are good to train and quite obdient

I got mine as an adult and he is wonderful.. he had some issues when I got him.. (the lady that I got him from found him as a stray with a collar imbedded and like 35 pounds overweight.. heartworm positive and.. no training at all).. but he is very social, loves meeting other dogs.. and actually gets along with two schnauzers who HATE other dogs generally.. (My mother did not keep them socialized.. so when I started taking care of them I was worried about getting them together..)

Just make sure you walk it alot..(Beagles do with if you run them more than walk them.. I like using rollerblades).. but in the house mine is lazy as can be.. he stays right with me.. when i'm watching TV he is curled up on the couch with me.. (Unless there is food in the room somewhere).. Mine isn't terribly into barking.. if he wants something he bays.. it can get annoying, but it's not bad..

We had one that was yappy, but i don't think it's the breed i think that varies from dog to dog. He was very sensitive and energetic. They stay a good size too. Ours wasn't cuddly, he was more playful. Just be sure to train them when they are young!

Beagles are cool, my Auntie has two, they are very playful and can be quite a lot to handle due to their size and weight but they are not the easiest of dogs to train unless you know what your doing or go to puppy classes.

if you get her trained up she will provide hours of joy and be a very loving and loyal dog.
