Why is it (I'm not gonna say all) some of you have such an utter disgust for anyone who does not conform to what you believe? Why do you feel the need to shove your doctrine down the throats of others? What is wrong with just believeign what you believe and being content in that. I believe in a higher power and that all roads (christian, jew, buddhist) lead to the creator. I do not shove my personal beliefs down the throats of people but I see so many christians and atheist do it on here all the time. Now Atheists you don't believe in God, I accept and respect that. Why do have a problem w/ people who do? Christians it says in your bible "36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. 37 "Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven." So why do you have a problem w/ people who are different than you?

Most people who are not Christian simply want the Christians to stop trying to turn their religion into US law. I really don't care what anyone believes or disbelieves as long as there is freedom to choose.

I have yet to have any Atheist try to shove their doctrine at me. This may be because they don't have any doctrine - just a guess.

I believe in God but I am not christian. The Atheists seem to have no problem with that at all. The Christians send me all sorts of hate mail telling me how I will burn in their hell for not believing in their god.

You're right that a lot of people have a problem. But it's impossible to see why from the high ground.

So, stop being the bigger person for just a sec.

Imagine that a Hindu person has patiently explained that they believe that all roads lead to one of the Hindu gods, and that it was why they were able to accept your belief, because the "creator" you believe in is just one of the many avatars of Vishnu.

Can you accept his view that the God you believe in is just one of many, and probably a lower God than Shiva or Kali?

Believing that other people "really" believe the same thing you believe doesn't solve the problem. No matter what it is that you believe or how good it may sound to you, there will always be someone else that disagrees with you. That includes your belief that "all roads lead to the creator", and by pointing it out, you have done the exact same thing you've judged other people for doing.

Starting to seem like maybe you're the one with the problem with how other people are acting?

It's not your fault. It's part of being a human being. We like knowing we made the world around us a better place, and usually like to think we know the best way to make it happen.

The next time you're wondering why other people have a problem with people who are different from them, remember that you, yourself, had a problem with other people "shoving things down people's throats". You pointed the problem out, hoping that you would make a difference.

That's exactly what the people "shoving things down people's throats" are doing. Pointing out things they view as problems, hoping that they can make a difference.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

First of all if your avatar is you your very pretty. Secondly you quoted Scripture correctly but the Bible also says to go out preaching the Gospel and to baptize in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. I don't agree with shoving down peoples throats. I think we should share though. You do not believe in objective truth. Lets say that I have a son but then I went missing when he was too young to remember me. Lets say I came back when he was 20. Even if another man brought him up, I am still his father. If you worship and pray to someone other than God while He has given you everything you need to know about Him don't you think that He would not want you worshipping and praying to other gods.

I do not have disgust with anyone or their beliefs.
However I do worry that the excessive influence of some religions affects the lives of everyone - even those who do not believe.
The major religions always try to become the dominant force in our lives and are frighteningly intolerant both historically and in the present.
If, as an atheist, I do not guard against this, I see my freedom being severely restricted and even my life being put in danger unless I comply with the dominant religion.
It is a matter of survival.

Only those with insight can truly see. Your vision is clear. Why is it that many cannot see the things we have in common in matters of spirituality, only what is not the same? Do not both christians and atheists believe at least in the Golden Rule (do unto others...) just as well? If we all treat each other with the same respect, what does it matter who goes to what church when, or even goes at all?

If our final judgement is before the creator, who is anyone to open their mouths in judgement of another anyway? We make our choices and pay our dues, every one of us, alone.

Thank you.

I believe that what you say has truth, and I also believe that in order to push beyond the minds of some of the people who comment here, that you must use their own 'doctrine' in order to prove a point. I think you put your argument very intelligently, but realize that only some are here to find answers, most are here to tell you the way they think you should live your life.

Our beliefs will always separate us from each other above everything else. I don't have a disgust towards anyone who believes differently than I do, but I don't hang around with everyone either, because how can two people be in a relationship if they don't agree in a crucial point?

That's an easy one.

The believers do it because they have to - It comes in one packed with the entire faith, cause the Bible asks them to go out and spread the word. So showing up peoples throats the Christian ideas is a step closer to heaven for them

The Atheist live in a cold world, where there is no hope. They get up everyday knowing that there s nobody out there to take care of them, and once they die that is the end. They need to let everybody else know that too - they feel that this is their moral duty. If we live just one life, one should live it in truth, they say

That's how I see it.

On both sides its about ego, and just plain respect. Everyone wants to believe that they are right, especially when its something that means a lot to them.

There are extremes on both sides. I've met people w/ PH's that were cool and others who were total pricks to anyone will less education than they, just because they have that degree, they think they are hot shtuff.
Christians too, forget, and have compulsive defensive reactions.. Its all human nature. This kind of ability to be able to have a civil conversation with someone who doesn't share your beliefs is of one that takes a lot of self discovery, growth and security.
