Okay, so I recently heard about Lilith. From what I've read, she was supposed to be the original first woman for Adam, but she wouldn't submit and so was sent to Hell? I'm not really sure of the details, anyone want to clear this up for me?

There is a very old version of the story of Genesis known as the Book of Zohar. In it, the first human being God creates is a hermaphrodrite, which God then separates into two separate entities -- the male, Adam; and the female, Lilith.

Lilith gets kicked out of the garden because she insists that she is Adam's equal -- specifically, because she wants to be on top during sex. She is said to have gone on to create a garden of her own, and copulated with demons to create incubi (a convenient excuse for when supposedly chaste nuns would turn up pregnant after late-night visits from the vicar...)

God then proceeds to create a second wife for Adam, out of nothing. Adam gets to see God assemble her, and see just how disgusting it is inside a human's body -- Adam saw that "she was full of vile secretions" and won't have anything to do with her. her ultimate fate is less clear, but she's not even important enough to be given a name.

Finally (and this is the part the bible you're familiar with skips to), God decides to put Adam to sleep first (so he won't be grossed out) and removes the rib (so that woman will always be secondary to man) and uses it to create Eve.

Hope that was informative!

There is a jewish tradition that Adam had a wife before Eve, but she has not always been identified with Lilith (though this happens in some sources.)

She can also be a partner for Satan! More often demon than human wife, in patriarchal accounts she is taken as something for men to fear: an uppity female!
(They would have that view, wouldn't they? And they got to write the texts)

According to one myth, Lilith was Adams first wife. She was created out of the dust same as him to be his equal. She was too willful so she was cast out and then God made Eve from Adams rib to be part of him. Another myth even attributes the serpent in the Garden to be Lilith not Satan.

The name Lilith is mentioned in Isaiah 34:14 of the Hebrew Bible and in the Dead Sea Scrolls but neither really mention who they are referring to. The Talmud refers to her as a demon of sorts.

Lilith is pure mythology, with no basis in scripture.

The "story" of Lilith is a man-made creation and has absolutely no basis or support in the Bible.

The story was an attempt to claim that Genesis chapter 1 and Genesis chapter 2 were different accounts of the creation. This "attempted" contradiction has been proven false repeatedly.

Lilith was Adam's first wife. Don't worry too much about it; it's all mythology, anyway

Lilith was a hebrew folktale , she wasn't erased from the bibloe, she was never in it. The folktale says that she refused to submit to Adam and was banished from the garden. but its a folktale and there is no scriptural evidence that the ever existed.

No, she wasn't erased. It's an apologist's attempt to rectify the discrepancies between the two creation stories in Genesis, one beginning at 1:1, the other beginning at 2:4b.

Lilith was more written INTO the bible rather than erased.

Lilith was Frazier Crane's first wife.

She later screwed around with him with her scientist friend when she chose to live in a bio-dome and later dumped him.

she dresses about as manly as a woman can and talks very monotone.
