I don't think I believe in anything in particular. I accept the laws of nature, those natural relations among the various forces and objects in the universe.
There is no purpose. The universe just is. It does not care or think. It did not create you for a reason and no one created you. You just are.
A falling rock, for example, does not follow the laws of nature, it just falls. It cannot object to gravity and break those laws. It just is. It has no purpose, neither do you.
You are probably better than many people and worse than quite a few. It is silly to believe we are all equal, just look around. That is demonstrably not true. I believe we should accord one another equal treatment until such time we become aware they deserve or should get unequal treatment, but it isn't because we are all equal, it is because until we experience a person we should not form judgments about them. Trust in their actions not their promises. Look at character.
God does not exist. The tooth fairy does not exist. Zeus does not exist. The angels do not exist. There is no evidence nor has there ever been any evidence that a god or goddess exists except to tribal shaman. It is time to put stone age ideas away.

What do I believe in? To be honest, I have a really hard time with this question. What does it mean, to believe in something? It baffles me. If "belief" pertains only to something that we cannot see, to something supernatural, then I cannot answer that.
As to our purpose, I do not think humanity has a collective purpose. We each make our own. Mine is to raise my two children, to teach them, to love them. It is also to learn about as much as I can. I want to enjoy my time on Earth. Life is short, and I savor every moment that I have.
Why do I think the way I do? If you mean why am I an atheist, that's simple. The notion of god, any god, seems absurd to me. I have never believed in god, not yours, nor any other. I've lived quite fine these 34 years without faith, and will continue to do so to my death.

This is gonna be fun.
I believe in science, reason, and logic. I believe in the power of humanity to change its own lot. I believe in what can be perceived with my five senses. If I can hear it, see it, smell it, taste it, feel it, it's got a chance. I believe it's our own job to decide what our purpose on this Earth is. If we're lucky, we've got eighty years to do it.
What I do not believe in is any concept of God. I do not believe we need a God or a bible to tell us what our purpose, to tell us how we should or should not be, or to tell us anything else.

I don't know if I really qualify as an atheist as I believe we continue on after this life. However, I strongly object to the abuses of religious groups and therefore consider myself a political atheist.
And we have a purpose, to love one another. Unconditionally. What better place to learn a spiritual lesson than here on earth which is rife with atrocities committed on the planet, the other inhabitants and humans BY humans. Often in the name of religion. You can't love unconditionally unless you learn to forgive and you can't forgive until you have something to forgive. (Murder, rape, war, betrayal.)
I don't worship "God". My "god's" name is Love. A power that is everywhere and available to all who seek. (Stop me if this sounds familiar.) To draw closer to my "god" I must mimic "god", which is Love. Therefore I must forgive my enemies and love them though "they know not what they do."
No easy task at times but something I must practice. Because if I DO go somewhere after here, I don't want it to be back HERE. And if I just die, that's OK too.
Your question was very kind, thank you.
Peace.

I believe in lots of things, but God is not one of them.
There isn't a set-in-stone "purpose" to life. Life is what you make of it.
Here is a video titled "What One Atheist Believes" which was made to answer this type of question: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ss3ZUKo28lo

I believe in that which can be observed, measured, demonstrated and repeated. I do not believe we have a purpose other than whatever purpose we may choose for ourselves.

I believe in a lot of things, I just don't believe in supernatural beings.
As for our "purpose" in life...I don't think that there's some sort of "higher" purpose, as if we were put here for a reason. I think that we have to make our own lives have purpose.

I believe in atoms.
Even though I've never seen an atom with my own eyes, I believe they exist. Saying "the universe is made of atoms" actually MEANS something. We can form hypotheses about how a universe made of atoms would behave, and conduct repeatable experiments which verify that our universe behaves exactly like a universe made of atoms OUGHT to behave.

i'm sorry, but i find it sad that you think your purpose on this earth is to worship someone.
atheists don't have that sense of unworthiness and the need to worship something bigger than themselves
their purpose of life is to live it to the fullest because it's the only one you have. that doesn't mean to be immoral either, but just to appreciate each day
