If you can't afford to take her then you shouldn't take her.

If you plan on taking her somewhere special and are strapped for cash tell him that. Say hey I really wanted to have a great weekend but I cant afford it Can you give me some money so I can take her to the zoo or where ever. Try and pick where you want to go ahead of time so you can give him an exact amount. My sister and I do this all the time but if you can afford it then just tell him where you guys are planning on going and let him make the offer.

You don't think he'll give her spending money without you asking? If not, and if your money is very tight, you should think about calling him ahead of time so you can avoid an uncomfortable scene when he drops her off.

Maybe you can just call and say, "I was looking into the different things we might do this weekend and was wondering if xxx will have any spending money with her?"

She's your niece. Family takes care of each other. Spend money on your niece.

If you are comfortable asking and that's how your family interacts with each other. We all have different family values.
In our family we would offer money but there is no way any of us would take the money especially for an adorable little one.

Thats a hard question..so many variables.
Is that how it works in your family? Can he afford to leave $?
Can you afford to spend $? What can you do for free?
Who aske who? Is it a favor or just for fun?

Think about that and then ... go from there.

Yes, he should make sure you have money so she can go and do things, if not then I guess you should stay home and play. Is he paying you to watch her, if not then he should make sure her needs are taken care of before he leaves.

You should let him know what ur plans are with her, now he might give you some money but not alot. But I understand what you are saying. When ever someone watches my kids I always give them money just in case
