Where do all these people get all their erroneous and bad information?
The other officers on here have it right.
That one print you gave is there to ensure you can't go back later and claim "Oh, no judge, it wasn't me there that night."
I'll bet it was your right thumb, correct?
You can be taken in and have your photos and a full set of prints taken for a minor traffic violation at the police officers whim. Of course, we don't do that, its just too time consuming and not worth it.

No you shouldn't have objected. Your thumb print is only for the DMV to verify that you are who you say you are is all, not someone else. They now have computers that can pull up the person's drivers license photo so the Officer can see right away if the person is who they have. This is to eliminate someone using a fake drivers licenses, or be driving on a ticket and don't have a license/state i.d. on them.
In Illinois, some towns arrest people for traffic misdemeanors, (class A or B) and they are fingerprinted and photographed which does go on your record.

Technically, being issued a traffic ticket is an arrest. When you sign the ticket you are signing your "bond" or promising to appear in court if you don't pay the fine.
Because it is an arrest....yes...you can be fingerprinted on the spot...or at the local jail!

Congratulations, you commited a crime. Electronic fingerprints are just another way to identify the violator. You could refuse, but then you run the risk of arrest and posting of bond.

One trick of pigs is once your at the station ALL THINGS GO. They will take your fingerprints, make you sign things, take pictures. They can do anything they want because all they have to say is "If you say no I will take you to a jail cell!!" And since you are usually 40 feet from a jail cell there scare tactics work. What most people should say is "YES!" take me to a jail cell for the night. That is the only way they won't trample all over your rights.
