There isn't any sunshine - everything is sad - just like England this summer with all the rain and no sunshine. Everyone is really miserable.

It means that there is no type of fun, joy, light or nothing to smile about. There is a song that says"aint no sunshine when she's gone" the guy singing the song knows that nothing is going to be funny when she's gone.

The song's lyrics you are referencing are most likely "Aint no sunshine when she's gone", a song by the great Marvin Gaye. Marvin Gay was a "ladies man" and sang very senual, romantic songs.

He is saying that when his lover is gone, his world SEEMS cold and gray. It's just a metaphor.

It probably has symbolic meaning, so I'd have to know more of the song to tell you the true meaning--which is probably closer to "I have no happyness" than "I am sad".

Ain't can mean isn't or aren't, and sunshine is the poetic word used to describe the rays of the sun.
