I like spanish because I am making friends. I live in the city and have met some spanish people that do not yet know much english. I am making more friends online as well.
The worst part:
The differences in words and phrases from Spain, Latin American and South America are the biggest pain in the butt for me. Because learning a new language is hard enough sometimes without there being So Many different ways to make one point.
The best part:
I love being able to read things in spanish and understand what it means. It makes me feel really smart and sort of 'ahead of the game' in a way.
Right now I'm better at reading spanish than understanding spoken spanish. Spanish speakers have tendency to talk very fast, making it difficult to separate the words. I have better conversations online because I can take my time looking up words. hehe.

It is a very elaborate language, originally from Latin, with some words from German ( Spain was invaded by the Visigoths, a German tribe ) and many words from Arabic.
Arabs conquered Spain in the year 711, at the battle of Guadalete. It was in the 1480s when the Catholic kings could recover the southern piece of Spain.
It has a very rich literature, a complex grammar, and many different nuances for expression. It is the best language to express emotion, passion, and love.
Of course, there are differences between the language spoken in Spain and that spoken in Latin America.
Many localisms, regionalisms, depending on the local costums, geographic areas, economies, and other factors.
Also different accents

I love Spanish! I don't even know why I just do. I think it is awesome. I am from Ukraine and speak Ukrainian, Russian and English, but the spanish is the one language that i actually want to learn. I was born speaking Russian and Ukrainian, came to America and learned english, i had to. Now I'm in college and am studying International business and want to work with Spain and South america after I graduate.
There's just something about spanish that pulls me toward it. I like spanish movies too. El Laberinto del Fauno is my all time favorite.

1. Language of romance.
2. Second most spoken language in the world.
Can be fiancially lucrative, because it is the second most spoken language in the US and is considered a plus in most resumes.
The differences in spanish between Spain and Latin America can esily be compared to those between Brtitish English and American English. Mostly in speaking and not so much in writting.
'Spaniards often pronounce the z and the c before i or e like the "th" in "thin,"
Spain-where it originated and from whom it was named. Considerable differences in the pronuncialtion because of a change in accent and a slight lisp in words containing the letters "s"

I would like to learn Spanish because by learning how to speak it, I would be able to communicate with people from sooo many countries (Spain, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador....)
I think the differences come primarily from the slang department.

I prefer the accent of southern (Argentina, Uruguay) South America, I like the accent from Spain too. Central American accent is the worst, they speak in a lazy way.

I LOVE the Spanish language. Until recently, all my experiences of speaking Spanish were in Europe; but recently I went to Mexico and was delighted to hear that the way they spoke there was pretty close to the way they speak in Canarias. Great language - nice and (relatively) easy - logical in its grammar - and now, más importante que el inglés en términos de hablantes. ¡Viva la lengua española!
