Actually, we don't have much in the way of mature atheists on this site, what we have here is bottom of the barrell bashes and trolls, which aren't a real indication of atheists. Secondly, we are told to love each other, so I'm guessing the fraterinazation thing would be right up His alley, considering that He spent so much time among those very types of people. Go back and try reading your bible with an open mind and His message might get through to you. If you were a "true" christian, you'd already know this.

God's Elect, I'd sure like to see what version of the Bible you are reading to say this information.
I'd encourage you to re-read the book of I John because I have this feeling that you have interpreted the scriptures in a way that shows that we need to not fellowship with unbelievers. What that means is not to engage in the activities that lead to a sinful life. However, if you re-read the scriptures in I John, you will see that for us to be saved, we must adopt the love of Jesus. And Jesus, who hammered on the Pharisees, forgave a tax collector as well as a Centurion and a fallen woman definitely loved these people. Jesus never stated that their sin was acceptable, but he always accepted anyone who wanted to learn more or wanted to follow Him.
And so should anyone who claims to be a Christian.

As an atheist, I would be fine with a "true" Christian; that is, one who follows Christ's golden rule of treating others as you would like to be treated. It wasn't atheists who persecuted Jesus, by the way. You need to educate yourself before you start telling people who they can and cannot "fraternize" with. I don't think Jesus would consider you a true Christian, frankly.
Houdini, I think it's sad you consider atheists your enemies. I wouldn't want "love" from someone who sees me as an enemy.

The simple truth of life is that you cannot make anyone like you. The decision on whether to like someone else rests with each individual.
The true Christian path is determined by a person's intent: are you doing things to be admired by others, or are you doing them out of a genuine sense of empathy and compassion for your fellow human beings? If the latter, you have heard and answered the call to "follow me."
The irony of intent is sincerity - the people doing good things for the right reasons often end up as the most liked people you meet!

Wake up! Christians do 100% of the persecuting in this country. They consistently cast the first stone, because of course they are blameless and truly follow Jesus.

I disagree. I was an atheist for 25 years, and am a recent revert to Catholicism (I was born Catholic before losing my faith). I was a decent person while an atheist and remain a decent person as a Catholic Christian.
In the Bible, the remark is made that (paraphrasing) you can tell they are Christians, by how they love each other so.
If someone hates us because of our actions or who we are, then it is US who have the problem. If someone hates us for Christ's sake (in that they would hate him as well), then that is to be expected.
As St. Francis of Assisi said, "Preach always, use words when necessary." If we are not close to others, how can we witness to them (by our actions)?
One of my most frequent prayers to God is that I don't act in a way to cause people to dislike His followers or Him. ("Oh Lord, please do not let me piss anyone off in Your Name")

hmmmm, that means that all the crap the christians have put the atheists, pagans and wiccans through is nothing, right? you guys have the monopoly on being persecuted?
I really do not think so. besides, if that were true, then the christians would be put to death for their religion and guess what.....YOU"RE NOT! So before you moan and cry about being harassed, stop and think about that religion has done to other people. Hangings, burnings, pressing, drowning, torture, and so on.

I am a true Christian. A true Christian is a person who has accepted and professes that Jesus is their Lord and Savior.
JESUS IS MY LORD AND SAVIOR.
I also am friends with and have several atheists both on this site and off of it who I believe like me.
Please, I beg you, focus more on your own understanding of Christ and what it means to truly love others and then MOVE ON from this kind of tirade.

let me guess you are a TRUE christian?
please... first stop judging the hearts of other Christians. second, start showing the love that Jesus has shown all of by walking in his example.
your mentality is not only wrong, but it's hurtful and a misrepresentation of Jesus and Christianity.

I fraternize with them, only to the extent that some are members of my family...You don't stop loving your family when you get saved......you can't kick them all to the curb...some we have to live with....but we don't have to participate in their worldly ways.......all are atheists if they are not Christian.....unbelievers,,and believers....two groups...there is no fence straddling and calling yourself agnostic,,,,I tried that for years,,,but guess where those straddling the fence go on Judgment Day? Right!....two groups.....If all the members of your family are Christians, I think that is wonderful, but not all of us are so blessed.
