1st off i am not trying to offend anyone.

anyway, i was in my history class and we were talking about different religions and christianity came up, of course. anyway, from what i understand the trinity is the same as what the hindus have. they have three separate "beings" that are all one, but for some reason they are considered polytheistic, but christians are not. why? the trinity is the same thing, three separate beings as one. i am just wondering why is there some huge difference.

and please don't post any Bible quotes that won't answer the question. because i already know baout one that talks about jesus being the son of god and stuff. and i do know that all christians don't believe the trinity, but many do

ok, i guess some of you have misunderstood the question. if there is God, Jesus(his son), then the holy spirit or ghost, then isn't that three? hindus consider their three all one thing as well. so what is the difference? and by callint the trinity the "triunity" it is still similsr to what hindus believe

Salam Aziz;
You are absolutely right. I've been having the same problem with Christians. They just don't want to believe that they believe in three not one. this is why their argument never gets anywhere and it never make any sense. No offense to Christians. As God says in Qoran, Christians are our closest and best friends.

Are Christians Monotheistic

How can a Trinity be monotheistic? Would not a Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit constitute three gods?

It's the basic christian philisophy I believe. Three beings, one meaning. The sect of christians that have the belief that jesus is god, and also the holy ghost character. I denounced m,y christanity, never really agreed with it anyway, but of what I understand is that they are a monotheistic religion, belief in a one god,his so called son, and a holy spirit. God being the ultimate power, jesus being sent to earth as a sacrificial lamb of sorts and th e holy ghost seeming left behind to bind us to godand a so called messiah. I'm sure My theory isnt exact, but it's close.

Triad Godheads are pagan in orgin and were part of many non-Judeo religions and cultures long before Christianity.

Lots of Christians do not like to be compared to Hindu, Babylonian, Greek, Roman and Egyptian triple God heads but the fact of the matter is, Jews believe in ONE God.

Many of the Jews that followed Christ still believed in ONE God and that Jesus Christ was the Son of God in the same way that all were children of God.

However when early Christianity became more widespread in the Roman Empire, it broke up into different sects. Some still believed in ONE God. Some began to see Jesus as a Divine God himself and others still began to see him as the Divine Son aspect of a Triune God head in the same way many pagan traditions had triple Godheads.

Gods incarnating into human form by communing with a mortal virgin and bearing half God/half man offspring is a common theology of many pagan religions, and when Rome embraced Christianity as its state religion, these teachings melded with the religion. When the early RC church began to solidfy doctrine and compile the bible and gospels, it was this sectarian doctrine that prevailed over the one God Christians who saw Jesus as a divinely guided deliverer and messenger but not a God.

There is a lot of research available on this topic.

no they are not.

no matter how you dress up a pig, no matter how you try to put a bow tie and suit on it and teach it to sit at the dinner table and eat with silverware- at the end of the day it is still a pig.

worshipping three gods is not monotheistic.

I'm a Christian and I don't believe in the trinity. Not because I consider it as "believing in more than on god", but because I know the truth behind the doctrine and I know it's a false teaching.

It is even more complicated in that, in several versus of the bible, there are references to Go as the greatest of all Gods, ect. ect. The trinity is seen as one God, because they aren't really seperate, its just a different aspect of the same God. Personally I believe that the bible, especially the old testemant was highly polytheistic It was the first book that explicitly challenged other religions Gods to prove they could stop the Christians. Some old roman writings actually discuss God chasing the the old gods away.

I am not sure why Buddhism is considered polytheistic if that is how they believe. However the doctrine for the trinity comes from here (Jesus is the Word):

1John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
