Why do Christian's think Evolution cannot occur?

Question

Why is it, even given the universal truth that ALL things change, that Christian's dispute evolution, especially given many examples of current changes in the human body.

Why is it God placed an "appendix" in us that does nothing? We know what everything does but can only speculate, using other "primates" as examples (who also have an appendix which WORKS). What about Wisdom teeth? Is that another joke of Gods, to place extra teeth in our mouths that simply do not fit?

So, if evolution cannot occur, then all species will remain the same which contradicts the one truth of "all things change." Why is it that this truth does not apply to us, since we are of ALL things?

Why isn't it still happening? It is still happening. You just cannot "see" it because it happens over a deal of time. As well, what else would you like to evolve into it? As a result of technology, humans are arguably becoming weaker and more "intelligent" (or have the capability, though, rarely used with all the distractions in today's world). The brain may become bigger but we cannot measure it from a day to day formula. It's just too slow.

As for proof it evolution is occurring, I would like you to tell me what the Appendix is used for since it seems to have no purpose except in primates whose diet is different from ours (but, one day long ago, may not have been so different). It is possibly shrinking and removing itself, slowly, through evolution.

We did evolve but not from apes - this has been proved!
Lucy from Africa and the new Hobbits near Paupua New Guinea are a smaller species of humans that did not thrive because they could not adapt to their rapidly changing enviroments. Yet they evolved to adapt to their enviroments. Lucy was a coming up human species and as her enviroment changed she evolved to adapt. Somewhere down the line, so did the Hobbits (an ancestoral species of pygmys in New Guinea) and they are now known as pygmys.
Modern man - homo erectus - also physically changed through inter breeding and adaption to the changing climate. Several branches of human ancestors, during the ice age melt, followed the herds for food and some went farther south for the warmer climate. When you have similar species intermingling with one another their natural instincts a lot of times will cross breed for the survival of the tribe. Hence the difference in some of modern mans genetic displacement, those we call monguloids or downs syndrome, their genetic "defect" has been traced back to a DNA maping of the Neanderthal. Why do you think we do not have any Mastedons or Mammoths today but in it's place elephants and pygmy elephants? Adaption to your enviroment will cause evolution. We have already proven that Darwins theory of ape to man was not possible but many types of "humans" were in place on the earth - enter breeding, change in enviroment, climate change, food sources ect make evolution very real.

In Genesis 1 20-25 we constantly see the terms "after their kind" or "after it's kind" being used to say that from the Beginning there was not to be a "Co-Mingling" of Species and that it does not happen. Yes, there are small changes within each Species, but if there was as U suggest an "Evolution" from Slime in the Pond up to Man on land, then why doesn't it still continue??? And Please don't tell me that "Mans Pollution" has caused it to stop Garbage!!! There was no "Pollution" in Biblical days now was there??? Ur "Truth" is "FLAWED"!!! So tell me how U explain the Coelacanth found Alive in Large Numbers that are Exactly,TO THE LAST BONE, as their Fossil Remains that have been found with NO EVOLUTIONARY CHANGES??? John

I especially love the ones that believe in "micro" evolution but not "macro." Like it's a legitimate distinction or something. That's like believing in the sun, but not in other stars. Irreducible stupidity. It must have been un-intelligently designed.

Edit: Rebbecca- Over 60% of american adults reject evolutionary theory. The most powerful nation in the world, and the majority are blind to logic and reason. That's not small, and it's disturbing as hell. The only place worse than us in the industrialized world is Turkey, which is (whether they admit it or not) an islamic theocratic state.

Theologically speaking if the creation myth did not occur, it removes Original Sin, the need for blood sacrifice, and ultimately the need for Jesus to die. It also has implications about the truthfulness of the Bible and its creditability.

I'm one of many Christians at YA who quite willingly accede that Darwin's theory is essentially correct, and that humans did biologically descend from earlier now-extinct ancestral species.

but they don't dispute it! only a fraction, small both temporally and geographically, do, albeit they seem to have enormous influence on the media. One presumes they don't really understand the bible, possibly because of their isolation from civilization.
