I want to steam instead of boil it so it is better for me.

When you look/test to see if it is ready what do you look for? Do you stick a knife in to see if it is soft? Where do you stick it into...the kernel or the side? Or do you just look at its color? Thanks!

Different idea...if you still have the husk, try this. It is great if you are just making a few pieces for dinner or a snack.

Pull off about half the husk, peel it back but leave attached. Take out cornsilk. Roll husk back up over the top of the corn. Put it in the microwave on high for about 2 minutes. (It will steam itself inside the husk.) Carefully take the corn out, and peel back the husk, and see if the color is brighter and that it is evenly cooked. If not, put it back in for a minute, in a different position than it was at first.

Cooked this way, it doesn't need any butter or salt or anything, it just tastes great. We use our garden corn for snacks this way, and it works well if you have 1-2 pieces to cook. Don't try to do a whole bunch at once, it doesn't work as well.

Enjoy!

You know the best corn I ever had was corn on the grill. If you don't want to fire up the grill you can use your broiler in your oven. Here is what you do.

Pre-heat your oven to Broil
Take your ears of corn, wash them really well.
1/2 teaspoon of butter per ear of corn, smere it all over the corn. Adding salt, pepper, or any other seasonings is optional, I like a little salt and pepper myself) Wrap it up in aluminum foil. Put them on the first rack in your oven. Make sure you turn the corn a half a turn about every 2 minutes at first until you make it all the way around at least twice, use the crease in the aluminum foil as your guide, and then turn it about every 1 minute after that, until you start to notice that the corn is starting to get softer, you can tell by taking the dull edge of a butter knife and pressing on the outside of the aluminum foil, once it is soft on all the sides pull it out, (BE CAREFUL)....they are hot use pot holder to remove, after you have pulled the rack out far enough, set them out for a few minutes before you attempt to open the aluminum foil. Man is it ever good eats, I never boil my corn or steam it any more. By the way, corn does not digest in the body, but if you noticed it always comes out whole. Its not the most nutritional vegetable to start with, it's a starch. Just thought you might like to know. But it does taste good. Good luck :0)

Shuck the corn, put it into a microwave safe dish, add about 1/4 cup of water. Cover with saran wrap, leaving a corner open, or cover with cover, slightly ajar to let steam escape. Microwave for 6-8 minutes for 6 ears. I've done it this way for years and it is easy and fabulous.

Boiling takes 5 minutes. Steaming takes about 7 to 10 minutes.

You don't have to worry about it being "cooked". Good fresh corn can be eaten raw.
