When singers lip sync, is it bad or not?

I don't like it. If they want to fool me into believing they are "actually" singer compared to listening to the cd, then I'd rather save my money and listen to it for free. Lip syncing is just another lazy way to make money. If you're a singer, sing for goodness sake. That's what people pay you to do.

That depends on the situation. Sometimes artists may decide to lip sync to their song if they intend on doing a lot of dancing duing a concert so they won't be out of breath. I don't think it's a bad thing in this case. A good example is Backstreet Boys when they first came out on only a few of their upbeat dancing songs, but they really can sing well without lip syncing.

On the other hand, some artists lip sync to their music because their singing has been enhanced on their CD and they cannot truly sing in real life. In this case, it is deceitful and definitely a bad thing. A good example is Ashley Simpson.

It depends a lot on the sound system where you are singing, and whether you have anybody to back you up. My daughter is a singer, songwriter, performer. Some places with a good sound system she will perform live using her guitar and keyboard, and especially if she is able to have some backup. Other places she will bring a minus track and sing into a microphone. If the sound system is really bad, like outside in a park or at a fair, etc. She will bring her original recordings and "lip sync" herself, actually singing along with playing her insruments without actually singing into the sound system.
She doesn't lip sync other people's recordings.

It's very bad. It completely prevents the artist from any spontaneity or improvisation. Look what happened to Ashley Simpson. Lip syncing shows a lack of integrity and devotion to your art.

(The exception is when making a music video.)

It is pretty bad, because if they really have talent, they would not lip syncing. And it's almost like a celebritie is cheating~

well it takes the feeling of art out of their music.

when people like britney spears or christina aguilera (sp?) used to lip sync so they could dance, it signalled that people weren't really there to see their show because they actually have good music, they were there for the "show"...

In music videos its fine, but on stage? That's just lame. Why would you pay to see someone perform if they're not actually performing?? I don't get it. I would hate to see someone just move their lips. It's pointless.
