How long does it typically take to get your first belt in Eskrima?

Is it a fixed amount of things you need to know? are you tested?

There is no belt system, at least where I am in the Philippines.

Every school and person is different. If a Sensei is honest and fair you will be tested when they feel you are ready, not on a schedule just when you are ready to be promoted.

Some people take longer then others to learn and absorb material, reguardless of which Martial Art it is. I dont agree with monthly/bi-monthly testing, because you may only need an extra week of practice rather than 6 weeks and then if you get bored or frustrated, then what? The school makes an extra 2 months tuition from you before you can even think about testing again. Quit? Or be stuck behind with others that are just learning the material and be forced to go over and over. Granted you know the material better as a result but you should also be given the oppourtunity to continue your education if you are paying for it.

Naturally every place is different, but from personal experience when I did Kali, they did sash testing every 4 months.

And a friend of mine who went to a different Kali school only had 1 test a year as they only had 3 belts before black.

Forever, as in probably never, since Captain Noah above is right, there's no belt system in Phil. Eskrima, just certification. I dunno about schools in the U.S. though.
