Non-Muslims are constantly pressuring Muslims to reprimand extremism. Most of us DO! But there is no concept of a hierarchy in Islam like many other religions (Pope, Dalai Llhama etc).

What this means is that there is a heightened pressure on the media to cover these Muslims and help their voices heard? Why then does the media continue to ignore us and plaster the news with ignorant Muslims?

It's cuz they want the damn ratings. People WANT controversy. So maybe it isn't all our *fault* in the end. If they wanted our voices to be heard they'd give us a shot to explain it..but they don't. I'd be glad to see ANYONE from my community but I never have.

Peace.

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU!

I agree 100% with ""But there is no concept of a hierarchy in Islam like many other religions (Pope, Dalai Llhama etc).""""

I wish there was myself, and as a Catholic Christian, I also agree that the media wants an argument, they are partially to blame for the hate and intollerance in the world.

I hope the moderate Muslims can prevail over the radicals!

Good Luck and may God (Allah) bless you and your family.

Peace be with you also!

Even if you don't have a hierarchy, you DO have peer pressure!

If the majority of Muslims stood up against extremism, then the minority extremists would be forced into silence or exile.

Whenever some Christian bombs some place, a large number of Christian scholars and laypeople publicly condemn what that person did as being against Christianity.

Whenever a Muslim blows up something, the majority of Muslims say nothing -- either to his family, or to anyone else.

The silence is deafening.

Where are the Muslim scholars who hate violence? Why aren't they going around speaking out against the preachers who preach violence every week in the mosques?

You need more peaceful Muslim preachers with the courage that this one had:

I am a muslim and against terrorism. I am just a simple person so I can't appear on the media and condemn terrorism. Even if I do so who will listen to me?
I alone can not do anything. I am sure more than 85% of muslims have the same oppinion as me but they can not do anything about it. Our media (i mean the media in the islamic world) has to speak out and some of them do speak out but the are not heard because the media in the west and especially in North America ( which is mainly controlled by the Jews) is stronger and its purpose is to keep a negative image of Islam.

And just how do most of you reprimand extremism? I've never heard of any Young Muslims Against Terrorism Parade. Or any organization of Muslims aiding the victims of 9/11. How about publishing an open letter of condemnation of al quaida?

American media focuses on whoever's making the most noise. Nobody's going to "give" you a shot. You have to take it.

That's not true watch Little Mosque on the Prairie.

I think you are in victim mode right now. Not everyone hates Muslims. I don't hate Muslims, although I look at the countries run by the Islamic regime and it does scare me. These hard core "ignorant Muslims" as you call them are very powerful, and doing terrible stuff in the name of their religion.

I know it is wrong to judge an entire religion on what a few are doing, but it's very hard not to judge them when all the countries run by Muslims are basically hell on earth. Not to mention I never hear any moderate Muslims speaking out against the radicals. Why don't you? We would like to hear it.

You can band together for a collective, worldwide campaign against the atrocities going on in Islam if you all really cared about peace. Hierarchy or not, this would be effective in making your stances public. Since you do not do this, and want to play the victim role when people say Islam is violent, then you all have no room to complain. You all are full of more hot gas than Jupiter.

There USED to be something like that. In Sharia law there was a council of advisers....the Ottoman Empire followed that and look how great they were.....now look at the Muslims. Thinking they're fighting a righteous war when they haven't followed Sharia law declaring Jihad AFTER going to a council of leaders to get it approved...

It's a personal war and any of the men and women who killed themselves for Bin Laden wont get into Heaven. Bin Laden is fighting his war, not Allah's.

Muslims spoke out, gather together to condemn terrorisms, even Muslims scholars from around the world gathered to condemn terrorism. but it seems the media does not want their voice to reach to the people, why? simply because to keep the negative image. how else will they find a excuse for the war?

Everyone knows that there is a sizeable community of moderate muslims.
But in a recent survey in the UK amongst muslims, 23% of those surveyed said that they supported what the terrorists were doing. This does not mean that themselves were terrorists or they were actively helping terrorists but they sympathised with them.
Makes one wonder..........
