Lately my right kneecap has been giving me problems.

Especially after my leg is in one position for a long time. When I stand up, my kneecap kind of gives way and it feels as if it the kneecap bent in. (not sure if that's that correct term.) There's a sharp pain and I often have to bend my leg(not straighten) to relieve the sudden shock.

What could be the cause of it? I am 16 by the way.

Also, I forgot to add. My kneecap cracks sometimes, like when people are cracking their knuckles. It usually happens when I stood down, or if I'm sitting down and I stretch my legs.

However this happened way after my knee first started hurting.

Does it have anything to do with my situation?

My knee has made cracking noises, a dr told me that it was an arthritis deposit and I had to have surgery to relieve it. But at 16, that is very young to have knee problems. I hope you can get it fixed or get advice from a dr soon. I am in my 40's and have had knee problems since my 20's. Good luck.

LOL that brings again reminiscences. I had the equal factor whilst I was once younger and it is a truly nuisance! In my case it wasn't as a result of an harm however a progress spurt - I grew 10 inches in a single yr, and the cartilage at the back of the patella (there is no "r" on it) could not hold up so it slipped out at all times. I had the crutches, too and the special equal challenge of wanting to hold it only a LITTLE bit bent to avert anguish. It additionally had a dependancy of slipping out once more, specially whilst I was once mountain climbing or descending stairs. In my case, after every incident, it was once approximately 3 days earlier than it was once robust adequate to maintain weight once more and the entire situation lasted approximately six months. Your health care provider might endorse cortisone injections to curb the swelling (however they harm just like the satan) however very nearly, the fewer you utilize it, the quicker it'll heal. I do't believe you can be capable to play basketball for a even as, however ask your train (when you have one) or your health care provider (if you do not.) I are aware of it sucks to be on crutches for the duration of the summer season, however the extra pressure you placed on it the extra harm you can do. ***If you utilize a tensor bandage - positioned it UNDER the patella, across the best of your calf, now not wrapped proper over it! That supplies help with out grinding the kneecap into the swollen cartilage underneath.***
