I believe in some forms of karma. I believe that if you steal, and you feel guilty about you, you will subconsciously punish yourself. Perhaps, you will even lead yourself into a situation that will allow you to repay the debt in a way.

karma means action. cause and effect.every action has a reaction to it. / sometimes bad things happen to seeming good people. deliberate harm, accidents and diseases./ why.?! even if someone doesn't believe in classic karma of nobody gets away with nothing, being in the wrong place at the wrong time is still karma. an action takes place followed by its effect.

I do not believe in the Vedic concept of Karma.
I do believe in the Law of Return. The energy* you put into the universe is returned to you.
However, the Law of Return is like a swingset in a windstorm. You can push the swing and influence its direction, but greater forces have a greater influence. There is much that is the effect of random chance and much more that is the effect of the energy others put into the universe.
I do not feel it is appropriate to call anything that works in this life and represents getting back what you put out Karma.

Karma simply means "Action"-the word is derived from the sanskrit root "Kr" =do--from that root many words are derived-like Karomi=I do--Karosi=you do--Kartha=The doer--Akrtha=previously done--Kuru=do it--Akurvatha=what they were doing etc--all these things exist or not.?--Sat Karma=benevolent action-actions pleasing God---Dush Karma= lie-cheating-Stealing-injuring-killing etc- do they exist or not? the Doctrine of Karma(karma Kaandam) says benevolent actions bestow good results--actions harmful to self,(Sucide)others,(harassingetc) society(treachery etc) brings bad effects.Even one can not boast of his/her benevolent, samaritan actions-the fruits of which should be dedicated to GOD(one should say "Brahmaarpanam astu--ithan na mama=the fruit of my benevolent action-be it of God's -not mine) same idea sri.Krishna says in sri.Bhagavad Geetha-"Karmanyeva Adhikaarasthay Maa Phaleshu Kathachana"
