So why do [some] Christian people bash them so much, and say "So and so wasn't Christian, he was catholic!"?

I see what you are getting at, and it is a good question. The historic fact is that all Christians were Catholic until the year 1054, with the Great Schism that produced the Orthodox Churches. However, Western Europe was still Catholic until 1512, when Martin Luther rebelled against the Church and started the so-called Protestant Reformation but was really a heretical schism.

The Catholic Church is the Mother Church, the True Vine of Christianity, and all other denominations are branches.

Yes.

Catholics and Orthodox Christians are the oldest "branch" of Christianity.

Most non-Catholic Christian denominations accept Catholics as Christians. A very few do not.

A dictionary would say that a Christian is someone professing belief in Jesus as Christ or following the religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus.

Catholics would fit this definition.

In the Nicene creed, from 325 C.E., Catholics profess:

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in being with the Father.

Through Him all things were made.

For us and our salvation He came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit, He was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered, died, and was buried.

On the third day He rose again in fulfillment of the scriptures: He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. We are baptized as Jesus commanded in Matthew 28:19, "in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit."

We truly are spiritually "born again," we just don't usually use those words.

For a complete description of what Catholics believe, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/index.htm

With love in Christ.

Huh? Last time I checked Catholics were Christians. And some Protestants are also Christians and also say the Apostles Creed which acknowledges one holy catholic and apostletic church. Catholic meaning universal that is. I've included two links one of which says Mormons are Christians and a link to PBS that says Mormons are not Christians. I guess it is all in who you ask and what they know.

the Catholic Church is not only a branch, IT IS Christianity, it's the original. bible-fundies/born-agains are just the by-products of the fall-away Catholics/Protestants/heretics from the original Christian Church, which is the Catholic Church. they are the so-called branches. you can find it in history.

They say that because they're anti-Catholic. We ARE Christian, we were the FIRST Christians, and we are the original Church founded by Christ. Do the research and you'll see I'm right.

The Catholic church is a cult. I am not bashing Catholics. I just think they need to research their church better. The Cathoics deny the Holy Spirit, which is the unpardonable sin. Instead they put a priest in the place of the Holy Spirit. They allow a priest to give the authority to allow you into Heaven. As if he had any authority to do that in the first place. Instead of someone putting their trust in Christ to save them, they are baptized as an infant and told that they are saved. The Catholic church says that only Catholics are going to Heaven. The priest is referred to as father when you should call no one father except for God. Just read about the Coucil of Trent.

Many people misunderstand the Catholic faith. Catholics believe in one God who has been reveled to mankind as "Father, Son and Holy Spirit." We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and also truly man, born of the Virgin Mary. We believe that the Holy Spirit inspired men to write the Bible and that it contains the true teaching of God. We believe that Jesus intended to create one Church to carry on his work and that he created that Church through the apostles. We believe that Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to the apostles and to their successors to guide them.
