She shouldn't act like she really believes the monsters and ghosts are real, but she shouldn't brush off his concerns either. Talk to him, inspect his room with him, etc. If he sees monsters in his nightmares, have her tell him to try to control the dream and fight the monster. A night-light might also help.

Maybe he watched something scary on tv...

She can give him a squirt bottle of water and tell him it's monster or ghost be gone. The little boy can spray it at any scary things and the scary thing will be gone. She can also do a room check before he goes to bed. Look under the bed for monsters and in the closet.

It should help him feel more secure in his room.

I agree with the monster be gone. I've used it and called it "Monster Spray". You can make up a label on the computer, put it in a clear watter bottle. Maybe add a little febreeze.
He's a little old to fall for it, but it may still work.
It's not uncommon to be scared at that age.

time to talk it out with the kid and find out what is going on. The parent should sleep in the kids room with him to show that nothings is wrong. Good nightlights will help, a dog works wonders.

I was told this by a friend. She said she had a can of air freshener and put a fake sticker on it that said monster be gone on it. Then when she would put her child to bed she would spray it. SHe said it worked.

She needs to talk to him about what he is seeing. He needs to know that spirits or ghosts can't hurt him. She should tell him to speak to them. He can tell them to go away.
