Written by one man, no. Do I take it literally word for word, no. People argue that the stories in the Bible are so far fetched how could they have ever happened!?!? Is it possible they were metaphors? Jesus taught in parables so why is it that the old testament didn't do the same? I call myself a Christian because I firmly believe that there is one true God, that Jesus is the son of God, and Jesus is salvation but I have a hard time with organized religion because I think a lof of times it conveys the wrong message about God to people.

Hello,
I am RC. As for the book of Genesis, there is a great deal of allegory told more like myths since nomadic societies would not be concerned with stellar mechanics, quantum theory, biology etc. The bible was written by many people.
The rest of the occurrences in the bible from the Assyrian conquest of Judea through to the revolt of the Maccabees,
Pilate being governor of Palestine etc are true and documented in other sources.
Cheers,
Michael Kelly

I believe the Bible word for word. I believe the Bible was written by God. God wrote the Bible through man. Each person that God chose to write a book of the Bible was led by the Holy Spirit to do so. God's Spirit dictated the words that He wanted written down to man. I am a born again Christian with no adherence to a particular sect. I do agree with some Fundamental Baptists but not most of them.

Some of the stories are history, some are not. I do not believe it was written by one man. The Old Testament, from Genesis to 2nd Kings, was written by several hands, and represents the compilation of at least four different religious traditions. The first consists of the Levite worshipers of Yahweh in the 9th century BC, the second represents the Israelite worshipers of El in the 9th century BC, the third is the post-Josiah, pre-exile reformers, and the fourth is the post-exile theocracy in Jerusalem and Babylon.
I believe it word-for-word as it was originally intended. The story of the Golden Calf, for example, was never intended to be history. It was a satirical commentary on the religious system implemented by King Jereboam several centuries later. The Flood was never intended as history. The older version was simply a folk tale used to describe the division of Gentile nations. The later account was intended to tie together the older folk version with the solar myth that was prominant among Semitic theologians in late antiquity.

If you ask a chirstian then they will say yes, but some may say no. The thing is, some of the stories are unknown, or otherwise not written completey like someones diary. Some of the stories symbloize something else, but it did really happen. In the book there is a old testamet, and a new. The old is before christ, and the new is after. There are many different books in the bible. All written by different people.

The bible, I feel has a lot of symbology and annalgies. i dont believe every story told in it really happened, but I believe that the stories are there to teach us something. Just like the paribles of Christ. They were paribles, but we can learn great truths from them. I dont belive the bible was written by one man, but by prophets, and apostles. or at least under their supervision. and also, the bible is not word for word from what the original men wrote. through so many translations through history a lot of things were lost and put into the book. but we can still learn an emince amout from it. I belive that if we are to find out what they were trying to say we must get the most correct copy and go by that. I belive that to be the King James version. I am a Mormon.

there is a few info to returned up some particular references interior the Bible, like particular places and individuals. in spite of the undeniable fact that, you will locate that for the duration of any historic fiction. as an occasion, the Civil conflict became referenced in "long gone with the Wind", yet that action picture continues to be fictional. there is extra info of Bible thoughts being derived from previous myths and legends. One sturdy e book i stumbled on on the subject rely is "a hundred and one Myths of the Bible: How historical Scribes Invented Biblical historic previous" by way of Gary Greenberg.

"Is the Bible true stories?"
The historical accounts are true. Many have been proven through recent archeology.
"Do you believe the bible word for word?"
The original Hebrew and Greek? Yes.
"Do you think that it was written by one man?"
No. It was written by 40 authors as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. In other words, it is the Word of God penned by men.
If my boss sent me a memo asking me to design a project, and I found out that it was actually written by his secretary's assistant, should I ignore it or fulfill it? Is it the word of my boss or a lowly temp? God is the Author of the Bible--yes, this can be proven. Penned by temps? Definitely.
"What religious sect are you?"
Non-denominational Christian
