My friends mom just passed away and I want to make him some food that's easy for him to heat up while he's dealing with the loss of his mom. If I make a tuna cassrole or a baked ziti do I put it together and freeze it or do I bake it first and then freeze it and once it's frozen, at what temperature would he use to reheat it? Thanks for all your help everyone...it's much appreciated.

If it's already baked then 350 degrees until it's all bubbly and hot. I like to make up casseroles but don't tend to bake the food. And then I freeze for a hurry up meal, and with the foil over it, just stick it in the oven at 350 degrees and it's turned out good. Hope this helps you out

Be careful to NOT USE GLASS to go from freezer to oven,
(it can explode or break in the oven) When freezing your casserole, use a metal, Corningware or disposable aluminum
pan that can safely withstand the quick and drastic temperature change.

Most of your baking will be done at 350 degrees farenheight, not going above 400 degrees.

When he re-heats it it should come to a full boiling temperature, even in the center.

I would put it together ex. baked ziti, lasagna etc.
I wouldn't bake it
wrap well and freeze
frozen casseroles usually take about 60 minutes to cook in a 350* oven, which is how I would cook it
if defrosted in refrigerator first 30-40 minutes at 350*
my dad was a chef and I have been cooking for over 40 years.
I make casseroles for the holidays and this is how I do it

I would cook whichever dish you decide to prepare for him, place into individual containers that are freezer safe and then he can heat up what he likes and keep frozen the remainder so it will last longer for him.

Also I think prior to reheating, he should thaw it slightly (in the refrigerator prior to leaving for work/school in the AM) so it doesn't dry out on the outside and stay cold on the inside when reheating.

I would probably reheat at 350- 375 for 20 minutes (depending on the range).

Hope that helps out a bit and sympathy to him for the loss.

I am a professional chef.......

Bake first at 325 till its set. Freeze after cooling. Wrap well.Freeze.
Put in a pre-heated 325 degree oven with aluminum on for about 25 minutes, take off the aluminum foil for the last 10 minutes. If its too thick it may take longer, so keep it cooking in the foil longer.

I am sure he will appreciate it!

Put it together and then freeze it for him.Just tell him to make sure and put in the fridge the nite before so it will thaw out for baking.Bake at 350 til bubbly and the cheese melts...About 30 mins will do any casserole, every thing is pre cooked. That is so nice of you to do for him...
